FCC approves net neutrality rules, reclassifies broadband as a utility
FCC approves net neutrality rules, reclassifies broadband as a utility
FCC overturns state laws that protect ISPs from local competition | Ars Technica Big time news and a huge win for the internet and the little people. I applaud the FCC as they have given big ISP/Telco companies the finger in trying to stifle the internet. President Obama actually took the time to thank Reddit who played a huge part in slamming the FCC with comments/calls to stop these monopolies. blog.reddit -- what's new on reddit: Thank you, reddit. Your efforts led to an historic FCC ruling and this note from the President of the United States

Re: FCC approves net neutrality rules, reclassifies broadband as a utility
This will go through a lot of litigation, but ultimately these rules will go into place. They're a good start but, in my opinion, in order to create competition in the internet market you have to force local loop unbundling. Force these carriers to compete on service, not because they're the sole provider of the cables. At least it's easier for other companies to lay cables along the same government provided right of way now.
The best part of this is that Verizon complained about not being able to double dip (e.g. charge companies to deliver content to Verizon ISP subscribers), and they won the lawsuit because Title 2 wasn't enforced. Now it's enforced and they are even angrier. Who knows, maybe the USA will actually start seeing internet speeds that compete with Europe and Asia.... but I doubt it.

It amazes me to hear people try to make a case against Net Neutrality.
