Computer Guys....
Anyone trying to help an idiot out?
So my computer has been running slow lately, and I decided it was time to wipe the ole chap out. I bought an external hard drive and got everything I needed and then clean wiped the thing and re-installed windows xp. Problem is, now that I just wiped out the computer, my wireless card isn't recognized. I went to the linksys website, downloaded the latest driver, installed it, but still nothing. The card doesn't even light up or get recognized as plug and play. I'm stumped... and I don't know what to do. Anyone have any clues as to what I should do? Thanks!!!!!!

Go to Control Panel->Sytem and Maintenance->Hardware-> Device manager.
Look for anything with a yellow question mark. ON the top bar, click scan for hardware changes. Then locate the drivers if you haven't already installed them. |

Call linksys, dont push anything and wait for it to start ringing so you arent on hold for an hour, and deal with the broken english and bad reception for 20 minutes. god i hate linksys.

Try a different PCI slot. While it's rare they go bad, I've found that sometimes putting it in another slot works (this doesn't work well for the ladies however. ZING!)

Yep - first step is to see if it's recognized in the Device Manager. If it is, then it is likely (but not necessarily) a driver problem. If it is not, then you need to either reseat it or relocate it.

Also make sure that you have service pack 2 installed. Getting all the latest updates would probably be a good idea too.

linksys is common enough that windows update should have a certified driver in the optional downloads list...
