hating fantasy football

Ok, last week redskins vs. jags, I kept santana on the bench because the jags are a top 5 defense, what happens 100+ yards and 3 tds and I lose. So this week I pick up Brunell, start Santana against the Giants(29th ranked pass defense) and get 6pts combined and lose. The bad thing is I have Eli Manning, if I would have started him I would have won. I also have Tiki, I was forced to draft him #4 overall, I hate that freakin guy. Anbody else out there gettin burned in fantasy like this, or have division opponents like T.O., or Tiki on their team that you are forced to root for on sundays.

I have the same problem. My best running back is Tiki Barber. I sat him last year when he torched the Redskins. I've learned the hard way to separate my feelings from putting together a good lineup. The hard rule is, "Always play your best players, forget the matchups or your personal bias." The same rule applies in drafting. Draft the best player available, don't get hung up that he plays for the Cowboys, Giants or Eagles.

You might be upset that Tiki ran all over the Skins, but at least you won your fantasy matchup that week.

Re: hating fantasy football

I'm doing great in all three leagues I'm in. Overall record will be 14-1.

By the by, there is a forum specifically set up for Fantasy Football discussions.

Re: hating fantasy football

i'm 5-0 5-0 2-3 and 2-3. (4-0 this week)

sometimes it happens. but you should never start brunell over eli. eli is a FF stud (who else throws for 300+ yards and 3 tds in losses?). with santana you just got unlucky, no one has back to back 3 td games like that, but you had to figure he's do better than 40 yards or whatever he ended up with.

and tiki always does well against the skins... just like fred taylor owns the steelers. not sure why, but it's true.

Re: hating fantasy football

This is a very weird FF year.

Here is the CBS Sportsline pre-draft top 25 list:

1 Larry Johnson, RB, Kansas City
2 LaDainian Tomlinson, RB, San Diego
3 Shaun Alexander, RB, Seattle
4 Tiki Barber, RB, N.Y. Giants
5 Edgerrin James, RB, Arizona
6 Steven Jackson, RB, St. Louis
7 Peyton Manning, QB, Indianapolis
8 LaMont Jordan, RB, Oakland
9 Rudi Johnson, RB, Cincinnati
10 Clinton Portis, RB, Washington
11 Cadillac Williams, RB, Tampa Bay
12 Ronnie Brown, RB, Miami
13 Chad Johnson, WR, Cincinnati
14 Steve Smith, WR, Carolina
15 Carson Palmer, QB, Cincinnati
16 Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Arizona
17 Willis McGahee, RB, Buffalo
18 Torry Holt, WR, St. Louis
19 Marvin Harrison, WR, Indianapolis
20 Brian Westbrook, RB, Philadelphia
21 Anquan Boldin, WR, Arizona
22 Julius Jones, RB, Dallas
23 Terrell Owens, WR, Dallas
24 Tom Brady, QB, New England
25 Randy Moss, WR, Oakland

LJ may be the only one who has performed anywhere close to expectations. Everyone else on that top 25 list is significantly below the value where they were drafted.

Think about this:

Top 3 QBs

Donavan McNabb*
Peyton Manning
Rex Grossman*

Top 3 RBs

Brian Westbrook
Larry Johnson
Frank Gore*

Top 3 WRs
Torry Holt
Bernard Berrian*
Andre Johnson*

I am to Grossman what Offiss is to Ramsey. That is to say I have clung blindly to him for years now. And since I knew no one else really does I was able to wait until the 12th (and last) round to pick him up in one of my money leagues.

Paying off tremendously now.

Re: hating fantasy football

LT is performing very well so far, as is Steven Jackson. Portis has 4 rushing TD's, which ain't too bad. Overall, you're right though, the 3rd and 4th rounders are having to pick up the slack (so far).

Re: hating fantasy football

Berrian has been a gem of a pickup for me.

Who figured that the Bears would be a great offense to latch on to. I also have Thomas Jones who's starting to produce very nicely.

Re: hating fantasy football

I really hate FF and I don't know if I will waste my money on it next year. I am going to lose yet again in my money league because Stover just kicked a 20yrd kick. My players suck, my drafting sucks, I always bench the wrong guys.
Damnit, if anyone needs me I'll be sitting in the shower with all my clothes on and crying for the next 45 minutes.

Re: hating fantasy football

last year i had serious problems with benching the wrong players. last year i had santana moss and steve smith in nearly every league though, since they were both left for dead.

Re: hating fantasy football

Unless there is a bye, my best players are always in the lineup regardless of matchups. I've found that all too often I overthink things and end up outsmarting myself. I try to juggle my lineup as little as possible now.

Re: hating fantasy football

I'm 4-1 in my keeper league (#1 Ranked team), 4-1 (#1) in a Yahoo! Public League, 3-1-1 (#4) in one Yahoo! Friends league, and 4-1 (#1) in another Yahoo! Friends league. It's probably my best start ever in Fantasy.

The less you shuffle around your starters, the better off you end up.
