NFL folded like a tent, good for the refs.

Re: NFL confirms deal with NFLRA
Touching on what Smoot said in the other thread regarding the refs. Hopefully fans will appreciate the refs now that we see how hard of a job it is, and how imperfect it is. Sure the old refs will continue to miss calls, but god damn it's glad to have them back. This could be another area we have computers judge. Right now, RR is working on the prototype for Computer Jury so hopefully he'll have something for the NFL by 2025.

We'll be complaining about bad calls this weekend.

Re: NFL confirms deal with NFLRA
Maybe...but we won't be complaining the the refs don't know the rules...or how to mark off a penalty...or have the respect of the coaches/players...or are intimidated by the difficulty and importance of their jobs...or overwhelmed by the speed and ferocity of the game...or that they're ruining the on-field product.
Other than those minor things all the officials are about the same. |

Re: NFL confirms deal with NFLRA
I see these refs struggling more than usual with no practice/warm up games. Hopefully they can control the game better than the replacements. I think the replacements would have been okay after ~1 year of practice. I know that's a while, but when the NFLRA keeps any college refs from coming over, you take what you can get. Their salary/retirement bonuses are ridiculous. Refs making more than some of the players!

Re: NFL confirms deal with NFLRA
One of the biggest differences is that the players and coaches will respect these refs. I think the lack of respect shown (because it wasn't earned) was what was driving the performances down instead of getting better.

Re: NFL confirms deal with NFLRA
The replacements were affecting the outcome of games and it doesn't get any worse than that. At least the regular guys know the rules. Glad to have them back is an understatement. I never appreciated these guys as much as I do now. Welcome back!!!

Re: NFL confirms deal with NFLRA
I think it is, because I definitely heard that there were D3 refs calling the games lately. Still blows my mind because I briefly went to a D3 school and man was that ish a joke.

Re: NFL confirms deal with NFLRA
Exactly, I think NC posted a summary of the refs that did the Skins-Rams game (the one that blew the Pack/Seahawks game Monday night) and almost all of them were JuCo/High School refs. No wonder they failed so badly.
