CBS names Stephen Colbert as Letterman replacement
Sounds like a good call to me, though I will miss the Colbert Report, what do you think?

I definitely enjoyed the Colbert Report, even though I didn't watch every night. Good luck to him, I think he will do fine.

I haven't been able to stand late night talk TV since Johnny Carson retired. I will check it out here and there for only a few minutes at a time. The worst one to me is Craig Ferguson and that skeleton and horse he talks to, How anyone older than 5 would be amused at that is beyond me.

Kimmel and Fallon are both great. I haven't had the chance to check out Seth Myers yet.
Late night TV seems to be in pretty good hands. |

Colbert's my favorite since Letterman so this sounds good to me.

i'm not sure what we'll be getting though, so i doubt he's going to carry over his blowhard persona. we'll see i guess.

Re: CBS names Stephen Colbert as Letterman replacement
Yeah, I assume he'll drop the character for show. Otherwise, he'd risk losing half his audience. I still hope he sticks with some political focus, he's brilliant at it.
Here's an interesting article on Slate.com about how is as when not in character. The Letterman interview is good. Stephen Colbert out of character: Rare videos show what he might be like as the new host of The Late Show.

Re: CBS names Stephen Colbert as Letterman replacement
Rush Limbaugh says that this is a DECLARATION OF WAR AGAINST THE HEARTLAND OF MURIKA!!!
“You really care what I think about that?” Limbaugh said on Thursday's edition of “The Rush Limbaugh Show,” when the topic was broached. “Well, I'll give you the short version: CBS has just declared war on the heartland of America.” Limbaugh went on to suggest that the late-night landscape — and in fact comedy as a whole — will now launch a full-scale attack on “traditional American values.” Also read: Why Stephen Colbert Is the Perfect Choice for CBS “No longer is comedy going to be a covert assault on traditional American values … now it's just wide out in the open,” Limbaugh warned. “What this hire means is a redefinition of what is funny, and a redefinition of what is comedy. They're blowing up the 11:30 format under the guise that the world's changing, and people don't want the kind of comedy that Carson gave us, or even Letterman. It's media planting a flag here … it's a declaration.” https://tv.yahoo.com/news/stephen-co...201300633.html when will the conservative pundits stop using fear tactics as their only message? when i was driving through the south, every other dial was a christian radio show talking about how the liberals are declaring war on religion and how we must all be aware of the coming rapture ..... these bible thumping fear spreading people are the ones who turn out in droves to vote in the mid terms and will get a house and senate full of republicans even though most of the country associates themselves with moderate views .... unfortunately most moderates and reasonable headed people are busy working, spending time with family etc and dont bother with the political vitriol spewed from both parties . . . |

Re: CBS names Stephen Colbert as Letterman replacement
It will be very interesting to see how he does without the persona. He is a very funny and talented performer though so I think he can do well
I was hoping they'd go with a more unconventional choice though
