Chase Young #99
24 regular season games played as a starter and only 9 sacks after being selected as the 2nd overall pick in 2020.....
Question: is it too soon to label Chase Young a bust ???

Re: Chase Young #99
Yes.
83.9 PFF grade this Sunday. 75.8 for the year. https://twitter.com/SethWalder/statu...189309953?s=20 Hes had a quiet and disappointing year 2 half way through but the advanced stats have him in pretty high regard .. for whatever thats worth. The guy has physical intangibles that are through the roof. Great IQ. Great read, recognize and react. great motor and hunger to be the best. Zero off field or character issues. Sometimes too eager to get to the QB and can forget lane control. Hes going to be a great player for a long time in this league. Rough patch right now. |

Re: Chase Young #99
He's not a bust yet but if he can't make impacts like that force fumble more often, he will end up being another Clowney

Re: Chase Young #99
Saw somewhere that the DL coach, Sam Mills III, has been asking the ends to play like Ryan Kerrigan, which from qhat I recall amounts to bull rush, speed rush and an occaisional rip move. If true a total waste of talent.

Hard to say because we have an absolutely inept coaching staff.

It's still too early. Young gets a lot more attention this year now, he just needs to learn how to beat the chip blocks & double teams.

Leaning on this. No coaching up whatsoever. He's playing like a jag and his talent is too much for that. He needs help.

Re: Chase Young #99
Dude is Clowney 2.0, said it from the day we drafted him.
Big, looks intimidating but is constantly out of position, takes himself out of plays, has about.5 pass rush moves and generally looks like a JAG. Cant rush worth a fuck, can't cover, can tackle well either. TF we think hes the face of a franchise for? FFS we are pathetic.

I'm firmly on the "no" camp right now in regards to him being a bust. If his stats aren't reflecting his play by the end of next season then it's probably a yes.

Re: Chase Young #99
I wouldn't say he can't tackle well, he's pretty damn good at that. He wasn't drafted to cover anyone, but yes his pass rush moves are horrible.. If he can't bull rush you he is a non factor. That is a huge issue and needs to be fixed or else he will be another Clowney for sure

Re: Chase Young #99
Rivera had some insightful comments on JP Finlay's podcast this week - he had the analytics team look at how often Chase and Montez are facing chips or extra blocks on 3rd downs. Rivera said it's noticeably higher than league average.
That explains why the PFF grades are high but the sack numbers are low. It also says that Washington either just noticed this because of the analytics exercise, or they noticed it earlier but have failed to scheme anything up defensively to take advantage. If you know you're going to get chipped more often there should be something you can do schematically to counter it. Hasn't happened yet. Now that he publicly pointed to it, he better show that he has a plan to counter it. I'd run games on 3rd down. Send the ends inside and let the DTs loop around. The ends won't be where the chipping blockers expect them to be.

Re: Chase Young #99
That is why the grades are solid, its why Aaron Donald is consistently the highest graded DL in football, but the defensive scheme is trash. It's not an excuse for CY tho, this was a "generational" talent by 99% of the draft experts.. So far Sweat has been better

I’ll buy low on CY, he’s flashed and still figuring it out. JDR needs to step up
