What the Wizards need this year
Question #1
Who would you make a play for? Kevin Garnettt - meaning you change your whole team and philosophy, chemistry, etc. OR Kenyan Martin - who knows the system, won't take Gil's status of star, and fits in probably better than any PF in the league? OR Wait and see who else is available in FA?

I'd say option 3. The first two have huge contracts

Re: What the Wizards need this year
I'd go after Ben Wallace as he's due to be a UFA this summer. The Wiz can score with the best of them, so they don't necessarily need point production in the middle. They do seriously need an intimidating defensive presence in the middle, which Wallace certainly is. Maybe his lead would push all of them to play at least a little D.

Some other players available are Chris Wilcox, Nene, and Reggie Evans
I say Etan and Jarvis are gone

i hear that for defensive rotations they are going to let little kids walk on to the court and start defending.

Re: What the Wizards need this year
Wilcox had a really good year, and I think he'll be available. He'll give the Zards some of that "grit" that they need. Jefferies is too soft, and Jamison is so soft that I can't even find the right adjective to describe him.
First thing is first though, sign Eddie Jordan to an extension. |

I can see Jarvis coming back, but you could be right about Etan. Sucks because he's one of my favorite players on the team. Do you think they'll match whatever offers Jefferies gets? Do you think he's worth it? I wouldn't mind keeping Etan and sending Brenda Haywood in a package deal for a decent PF. |

Re: What the Wizards need this year
Jarvis and his glass knee caps need to go.
I would love to have Wilcox inside blocking shots and grabbing boards. He was my second favorite player on UMD (behind Dixon, obviously) and I think he could bring the same presence to the Wizards. With that being said, I heard on the news this morning that the Wizards don't have any room for movement in terms of the salary cap. Apparently there won't be too much change because Grunfield wants to try to keep consistancy. But if they don't get some defensive help, they will consistantly make an early exit from the playoffs. lebron travels, a lot

What? You mean he takes 6-7 steps instead of 2?

Re: What the Wizards need this year
we need shaq in his prime, but who doesn't?
i doubt there's contract space to get close to garnett. maybe our killer GM can make another kwame-like trade with haywood and possibly jarvis... he traded two problems for jamison, and another (worthless) one for caron. let's see him do it one more time... |

Re: What the Wizards need this year
I think the consensus is in: We keep Gil, Butler, and Jeffries....if anyone is expendable of the big three it's Jamison. Wilcox could be a possibility. I don't see us prying Wallace away from the Pistons. They'd be nuts to let him get away. KMart, hell no!!! Basket case!
Bottom line, who ever is playing with the Wiz next year needs to have more heart when it counts. One thing that I didn't like this past year was their shot selection..that most definitely has to improve. |

If the player wants to come to Washington, They'll pay him the exemption salary, and give him mad bonus up front, then after the first year, the team is entitled to be over the cap.
