Don Imus
I didn't think much of his comment about the Rutgers Womens basketball team. After reading about his reaction to someone "insulting" though, I must say, the man is a complete jackass.

Re: Don Imus
A typical modern-day racist: one who thinks he's not.
I cannot understand how people try to explain racist remarks by saying they were accidental. I have said many things that I regret, but I meant to say them. Never have words come out of my mouth, that I did not intentionally speak. What a crock. Then, he comes with the typical racist defense: I have black friends ... I know black people. Imus, you're a douche. Just because you know black people does not mean you are not a racist. It just means your a racist who knows black people. Being a racist is not about who you know, or associate with -- it is about your attitude and beliefs. The worst part is that he got all bent out of shape when he was insulted without provocation on Sharpton's radio show. OMG. What a hypocritical, racist, wrinkled douche bag. F... Imus.

Re: Don Imus
Here's my take very quickly. And I have some very strong opinions about incidents like this one. For the record, I think Inus is a jackass and perhaps racist. Although I'm not totally sure about the latter.
But I will say that we have a double standard in today's society. Had it been JayZ or Diddy who said it, we wouldn't have this same reaction. I promise you that. I think, in part, Imus, is and has been like subject to our present day culture that makes it acceptable for certain people to say things, but when a white man says it, it's immidiately catorgorized as racism or bigotry. |

Imus, like others before him, have made statements, only to recant them with apologies. Just trying to save their ass. Like Mel Gibson..........he really thinks the Jews are great because he sobered up? BS, the booze just loosened him up, to tell what he viewed as the truth. In this country, you get to speak your mind, but that doesn't mean it does not have severe consequences. I have NO use for bloodsuckers like Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson, and others like him who do more damage to race relations than good..................but Imus NEEDS to go down for his deeds. Live by the sword, die by the sword

Re: Don Imus
He's an idiot shock-jock who's career, just like all the other shock jocks, is solely based on saying outrageous things to get more people to tune in. Anyone listening to that audio clip should be able to discern that there was no hatred in his voice for black people. It was clearly insensitive but that does categorize him as being a racist. Stupid, but not a hater of black people.
With that line of thinking I would be a racist of white people because rare is the day that goes by that I don't laugh and make fun of the local redneck populace. I still find it funny for people to classify other humans as another race for the simple fact that their ancestors prospered in a region of the world that caused their skin to appropriately adapt in order to efficiently regulate body temperature and help stave off the damaging effects of the sun.

Re: Don Imus
Did anyone see the press conference from Rutgers.....
Does anyone else think this is just A LITTLE over the top. I mean I dont for one second condone anything the guy said, and if he's fired, I dont really give a crap because he's a moron for saying it.... But seriously, this is just getting a little bit out of hand. Didnt anyone ever remember "sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me." I mean is it really nessacary to have this team paraded out there for some press conference with the President of Rutgers telling the girls how much his heart goes out to them during such a dark period of their lives..... I don't know, I just think this is all a little much.

Re: Don Imus
You don't have to hate black people to be racist. You only have to have an opinion about them which is based only on their skin color.
It should be noted that Imus was not alone in this. There was another man in the booth (I think his producer), and I can't be certain who said what. However, they were certainly in agreement. Imus' statements reflect his attitude and beliefs towards the people whom he described. He (or his producer) called the Rutgers girls "Jigaboos", which is only a very small step away from n*****. I cannot understand how somebody would refer to black people in this manner, without having some negative opinion. Based on that statement, Imus is racist. He clearly has a negative opinion about those people -- whom he does not know -- simply because of the color of their skin.

Re: Don Imus
Wow, I didn't hear anyone say "jigaboos." That would make the incident worse, but I haven't heard anything else about the use of that term.
I don't think it was a horrible incident (and I'm pretty sensitive to racial issues), but I am certainly not going to argue with you GDAS. |
