Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020
I guess Ill make the Election Day thread. I would suggest we keep this to current news and updates on the Election. Ideally people would post links and tweets re early election results, election lines, voter issues, your own experience voting.
Id like to keep this as informative as possible so lets try not to rehash policy discussions etc as there are threads for that. Just election based news. Or dont. Do what you want. I imagine its gonna get nasty at times up in here so lets all try to be as civil as possible but lets also have some fun and sling some monkey poo too. If I call you an asshole, I mean it in the nicest way possible. To which ever candidate wins, congratulations. Half the country hates your guts and will make your life miserable for the next 4 years.

Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020
One of the issues weve been repeatedly warned about is that with the unprecedented mail-in voting, and some States not counting the mail-in votes until Election day, is that we will not know the winner for days or weeks after November 3, 2020.
Wisconsin and Pennsylvania (2 huge swing states) plus Mississippi and Alabama do not start counting mail-in votes until Election Day. https://www.cnn.com/interactive/2020...ail-in-voting/ In Pennsylvania, about 3.02 million voters have requested mail-in ballots. More than 57 percent of them have already been returned, according to the latest statistics from the Pennsylvania Department of State made available on Monday afternoon All told, that means roughly a third of all registered Pennsylvania voters have chosen to vote by mail. There are 9,016,163 total registered voters in the state. If there's a roughly similar voter turnout to 2016, when a little over 6 million Pennsylvanians voted, that would mean roughly half of all ballots are mail-ins. https://patch.com/pennsylvania/lansd...d-mail-ballots MADISON, Wis. (AP) — More than 75,000 people in Wisconsin cast ballots on the first day of early in-person voting in the presidential battleground state, the state elections commission reported. Mail-in absentee voting has been available since September and more than 1 million people have already returned their ballots that way. The combined total of mail-in and early in-person votes cast in the state thus far amounts to 34% of the total votes cast in Wisconsin during the 2016 presidential election. https://apnews.com/article/election-...de024f64f00333

Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020
This election is going to make hanging chads seem like the cleanest election in the history of mankind.
Whichever side loses, is going to call the whole thing a fraud, and an invalid election. And the discussion will go on all the way until the 2024 election. This is going to be fucking brutal.

Im in Maryland and I wouldnt spend a dime in MD if I was in either party. Spend that money on Wisconsin, PA, Iowa etc. ---------------------------------- I looked up Virginia to see if if was swing state. 51% Biden, 39% Trump ... I thought Virginia was closer than that. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/virginia/ Virginia last voted for a republican president in 2000 for George Bush. Looks like Hillary won by 215k votes-- 1,981,000 to 1,769,000 ---------------- is "fivethirtyeight" a reliable source for polls? There format is very user friendly. Not that I trust polling after 2106 ..

Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020
I generally trust fivethirtyeight, got into them a couple years ago for the baseball and football analysis actually. But it's trustworthy to me even if I don't generally understand the science of it.
Anybody care to have a discussion about why a Supreme Court nominee can be elected for life by a simple majority vote but we can't have a simple majority vote for a 4 year presidential term?

Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020
Trump will lose by about 10% as well as in the EC. Biden will be worse unless the dems declare him incompetent and put Harris in. That may be their plan

Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020
Biden will surround himself with a more than capable cabinet. All they have to do is roll him out via weekend at Bernie's style for the next 4 years. He won't be on Twitter, he won't be picking fights with everyone, the nonsense will be over unless you watch Fox News where they will probably routinely blast him for wearing tan suits or for using a selfie stick in the WH.
