F... Microsoft

First I can't believe this hasn't been a thread before.

I also can't believe that Microsoft is cashing in on Android. If so, they ought to just give up on WP7, I haven't used it but just can't see it being worth using.

Samsung to pay Microsoft for every Android device they sell - Yahoo! News

Quote:
The reason Android device makers are signing deals with Microsoft is pretty simple, because they don’t want to be sued. In an interview Microsoft’s general counsel Brad Smith said, “So far we have not seen a single Android device that does not infringe on our patents.” In order to protect themselves from being sued by Microsoft, and ultimately paying more these companies are cutting hedging their bets and paying Microsoft upfront.
Microsoft may not develop good phone software, but I guess they have their lawyers on speed dial

Re: F... Microsoft

Well there was this thread

http://www.thewarpath.net/parking-lot/20094-f-m.html

I'm not exactly sure I get what the problem is here. If Microsoft has patents, don't they have the right to be compensated for them?

Anyhow, I'm reminded of that episode where Homer Simpson starts CompuGlobalHyperMegaNet and Bill Gates has his goons bust up Homer's equipment and "buy him out"

Hey I just applied for a job working at the Microsoft store that's opening up in Tysons Corner.

It looks exactly like the Apple store... except.. with Microsoft products.

Lawsuit!

Ya know I searched Microsoft, and F Microsoft , but in both cases only scrolled to 2008 threads (F... Microsoft only had like 6 similar, or something)

I understand your point on patents, just felt like griping about Microsoft. Maybe I'll start a F Walmart thread too lol

Re: F... Microsoft

At some point Google buying patents from IBM and acquiring Motorola Mobility will pay off and the era of suing Android manufacturer will come to an end.

May the best phone maker win.

Re: F... Microsoft

I sort of always envisioned something like this except that Wal-Mart would become the new "umbrella" company that Microsoft is today.

it really got me thinking that way when one of the members here PM'd me about a Walmart in Texas or somewhere that not only sold gas, it sold used cars, and had an in house physician and dentist. No joke....

As always, there's more to it than what meets the eye.

Same thing has probably been said about personal computing. I don't always feel the best gadget wins, but the one that has the most money backing it.
