Should Billy Cundiff still be cut!
IMO I don't think he saved his job be making that game winning field goal. If he had made the other 2 kicks (if you want to exclude the 57 yarder) then we would have been in a clock killing kneel down mode not scrambling to TRYING to win the game.

Re: Should Billy Cundiff still be cut!
If there's someone out there on the street that could do a better job, he would probably be here already. Put kicker on the list for next offseason.
If he had missed that last kick, chances are he would have been gone. He bought himself another week. |

I dunno. If it wasn't for his kickoffs, I'd say that last kick didn't save him. It's just so hard to imagine someone missing every kick but one and still keeping their job.

I just don't understand why they cut both Rackers and Gano for Cundiff. That simply makes 0 sense to me.

It's still a head scratcher. I mean, I like the fact that most of Cundiff's kick-offs are endzone bound, but in the grand scheme of things, you need a consistent field goal kicker.

Re: Should Billy Cundiff still be cut!
One week. It was one week. You cut a kicker for being bad...in general. One week really isn't enough to determine that he is bad. It really isn't. He misses any this week and I'd bet he's gone. But they should never cut a guy for one bad week.

It's not as if Gano or Rackers are in high demand. They're both sitting at home. I think you could flip a coin between all three and get similar production.

Old kickers don't typicaly beat the yips. Younger kickers do. Bring Gano back. I can deal with inconsistency in a player that will eventually pull through -- I can't with a veteran.

Re: Should Billy Cundiff still be cut!
I'd rather the team focuses on how to actually score TDs instead of FGs and improve that 3rd down conversion rate. Because those things are going to lose us games more than Cundiff.
That being said, I am sure the Redskins will do their due diligence and bring in some kicker competition this week. I'm a bit bummed that some teams out there have picked up rookie FA who are doing well and with our kicking woes the only competition was between Rackers and Gano.

Pretty much this. I still didn't think Cundiff was a upgrade over Gano.

Re: Should Billy Cundiff still be cut!
They aren't bringing in any kickers this week, and I don't think they should. For one thing, going into Sunday Cundiff had only missed one kick (a 62 yarder he never should have taken). But more importantly, they can't just quit on him after one poor game after making so adamant a commitment to him just a month ago.

Re: Should Billy Cundiff still be cut!
Keep Cundiff.
Score more touchdowns. Make more interceptions. Sack more QBs. Stuff more RBs. Play better defense.
