How much does your spouse know about football?
Reading the latest "Getting Married" thread made me think about this. Most of us probably has a spouse that doesn't care/know much about football. I was just curious about people's experience with this. Here is mine:
My wife is really not much of a football fan, and like many wives dislikes the beginning of the football season...a bit. But I have to give her credit, since she's come around a bit and toned down on her dislike of football. I think a lot of her dislike came from not understanding the sport. So I've actually taught her a bit about football, but I try to be funny about it (i.e. explain to her that a nose tackle is a big fat f*ck that takes on two offensive linemen, etc., etc.). She now watches some games with me, especially during the preseason. So I can't really complain about my situation. Although sometimes I do have to payback and sit through an episode of Project Runaway or something like that.

Re: How much does your spouse know about football?
My wife hates football. The only time she was remotely interested was when she saw Jason Taylor standing on the sidelines and started to drool. Even taking her down to the sidelines, sitting in the production truck, meeting players does nothing for her.
She pust up with my sports life every day though so if she doesn't want to watch the game with me, it's just as well. I prefer that she go off and do her thing while I watch the game than bother me. Unlike her mother, who thinks she knows everything about football and thinks we're football buddies, yet she really knows less than a 1/3 of what she does.

Re: How much does your spouse know about football?
According to her "it's game with men in tights with possible homosexual tendencies." I am working overtime to convince her otherwise. Me saying "football is like ballet only on grass" this past thursday wasn't helpfull.
I got her "Complete Idiots Guide to Foodball" by JT about two years ago and she has yet to read more than the first page. I am on the verge of giving up on educating her and trying to get her to be interested in football.

My wife will watch it if there's nothing else to do, but she doesn't really care. But she knows a fair amount by osmosis. If shown a helmet she can identify the team it belongs to. She knows most of the rules. But she doesn't want to sit down and watch.

She knows more than most men, she's also far less of a Homer than I am so I occasionally have to throw things at her for not siding with me on bad calls and the like.
Her Dad took her to all the UCLA games from a young age, lucky lady. |

Re: How much does your spouse know about football?
My wife is pretty damn into football. Not nearly like me of course but she knows the rules more than basically and has a pretty good handle on the Skins roster most of the time. She also bought me season tickets 5 years ago and went to plenty of games with me in the past. Outside of the rare super-football wife I doubt there are many that get into it like my girl.

Re: How much does your spouse know about football?
Maybe just as important a question, if your wife is not into football, do you wish she was?

Re: How much does your spouse know about football?
Not if it means I would have to take interest in all her realty tv and vampire shows. Part of me like the idea of football being a guy thing and having her spend her free time cleaning the house and running errands. Plus it can be annoying to hear her cheer against the skins and say "same ol' skins."

When we started dating - she could not care less about sports of any type. Then she got into a football pool at her work and won a couple weeks in a row which perked her interest. Slowly, I dragged her into my addiction. Now, 15 years later, she knows the rules, knows the Redskins and has a pretty good idea of who's who of the more well known players. While not hard core, she knows enough to make watching football fun for both of us and to discuss a game intelligently. By the way - after resting her throat as much as she could, drinking honey, etc., she proceeded to sing the crap out of her solo. Pretty f'ing impressive feat considering she was barely able to speak 12 hours earlier.

Re: How much does your spouse know about football?
My wife knows enough to know she doesn't like it! lol
I think she appreciates an exciting playoff game now and then, but overall I'd say she could live without it just fine. But she married a football fanatic so she puts up with it. I was way worse when we first started dating, so I've kinda met her halfway on some things. |

Re: How much does your spouse know about football?
My wife is really into it. She even runs a fantasy football league for her family and friends. (I'm not into FF)
She didn't really know much about football when we got together, but she picked it up real quick and has come to love it. She is a diehard skins fan now, just like me. She is super competitive and football really brings it out. She also likes fast cars. She's a keeper.
