What Is a Sochi? Everything You Should Know About the 2014 Olympic Site
Good intro article about Sochi and why the olympics are there. Apparently its a mess so far, but Ill be tuning in for some events. Any interest? Im just as interested in the events as the epic fails going on there.

Re: Winter Olympics
I love the winter Olympics. The sports are far more intriguing to me than the summer games. The only thing I like of the summer games are track and field and swimming. I watched the qualifying slopestyle snowboard last night and thought it was a nice addition. My wife used to compete in figure skating and the new team competition is nice for casual fans like me who don't understand point evaluations.

Re: Winter Olympics
I'll be watching the hockey tournament, and even though it's cool to hate on the sport I'll probably check out a little curling action even though I don't understand it beyond "get the heavy puck thing in the circle." I'm also going to check out a little snowboard action if I get the chance.

Re: Winter Olympics
I was just talking to my coworkers today about the Winter Olympics, and it felt like as soon as curling came up they were dismissing it as something that shouldn't be an Olympic sport. I hate that. Like just because it's not popular here doesn't mean there aren't people somewhere else in the world that cherish it like we cherish football, or nascar, etc.

Re: Winter Olympics
No but I'm sure it's got fans that are passionate about it, that see as something more than a sport that happens every 4 years when the Winter Olympics get together.

Re: Winter Olympics
Watching the women's slopestyle competition right now, and it's crazy how talented these athletes are. After the Olympics are over I probably won't watch for another 4 years but it's mind boggling to think about how much work these athletes put in to prepare for this moment.

Re: Winter Olympics
No kidding. I was just thinking about what would happen if one of the skiers in the men's downhill wiped out at 80+ mph. Easily could be a near-death situation if that happened. I remember one of the lugers at Vancouver died 4 years ago, that's the ultimate price to pay if something goes wrong. The risks are crazy, but clearly being able to call yourself amongst the best in the world at your sport is worth it.
