One, our defense is good...especially at pressure. That killed their o-line. Tech's o-line is an embarrassment. Especially that left side. Two, a short-weeked Tech didn't show up. Right now a lot of their players look like they are going through the motions (looked a little like that last week to). What sucks is that Tyrod is in the top 5 in QBs in the country. On a good team with a better o coordinator he is a Heisman candidate. Tech isn't nearly as bad as they looked today but they have fundamental problems on their lines. For some reason they never seem to recruit along the o-line very well and on the d-line they have to get lucky that their undersized athletic D linemen that they recruit end up being special. Otherwise they're just...undersized and useless. Tech also has way too many average players starting to be a real contender. They have to get better at recruiting. They were killing it for a while after the Vick years but now London is recruiting the state better and JMU, Richmond and W&M recruit the state very well. They still pull the top players but they lose out on the depth players that would be good starters in the junior/senior years. Especially on the lines. |

Re: ***2010-2011 College Football Thread***
Oh and the other thing. The top teams in the FCS (JMU, Montana, Richmond, Villanova, etc...) would compete in the ACC. They certainly would be bottom feeders but they'd be 2-3 win teams. Last year I believe both Richmond and W&M beat ACC teams and JMU imploded late in the game to lose to Maryland. The ACC was almost 0-3 against CAA teams in one day.
Why teams would schedule top level FCS teams is beyond me. It is too risky. |

Re: ***2010-2011 College Football Thread***
tech has been losing recruiting battles to unc lately especially on the lines. the tech o-line coach likes quicker guys rather than heavy guys on the o-line. same with the d-line. our lines will always be smaller and quicker as long as he is there and bud foster is on d. not a fan of the o-line strategy, we have been weak there for a while.

No I don't. The fact that Boise had to come back against a team that lost to James Madison at home is a joke. It just shows how much Va Tech sucks and how good Boise isn't. Like I said, they are a 5 loss team in the SEC.

VT needs to hand the headset over to Bud Foster. Along with FB, the whole offensive (and yes they are quite offensive) staff needs to go.

Come on now. Take a little bit of humble pie at least. You were touting Boise hard after Monday's game. Turns out their opponent was soft and they still only won by 3 (and allowed 30 points- that beastly James Madison defense held them to 16 in Blacksburg).

It's too bad to, because of all the "local" football programs, they're my favorite (don't really care for Maryland or UVA football). I'd like to see them do well.

and my comment wasnt stating that we are rebuilding. i was saying its a shame to call it a rebuilding year if we have so much experience on offense. this was not meant to be a rebuilding year with tyrod as a senior plus a full stable of receivers and backs.

Re: ***2010-2011 College Football Thread***
Im just happy they didnt show the game on TV. Tech blah blah blah, if it is one thing its another thing with this team. Same issues on offense every single year. There are no excuses for that loss. ACC been a second rate conference for awhile anyways. How did FSU make out?
But I did hear something interesting about the Big ten vs the SEC on the espn pre game show, the last 10 meetings between the two before any match up yesterday...the Big Ten held the edge 8-2. I didnt check up on it, and it doesnt sound right, but that didnt sound too dominate.
