I came away from that podcast with a better impression of Jay than I had. I think he could be a really good offensive coordinator somewhere as long as he has a decent QB. I think his hands were completely tied the whole time he was the head coach....not that that really surprises any of us. Would love to hear more stories like the one he told about Pierre and Desean...between management and these guys, no wonder KC wanted out of here.

I thought he was pretty good in Cincy. That offense made Cincy a tough team for both Pitt and Baltimore during that time.

Some interesting notes from the interview:

1. Kirk was never going to stay because he felt dissed by the RG3 situation (most of us guessed that)

2. The Kneel down situation was as bizarre as we all thought.

3. Jay never wanted Haskins , it was 100% all Dan and he knew they were taking him no matter what he told Dan.

4. He wanted to keep Kirk and Dan thought $$ was going to keep Cousins around lol. Yeah ok.

5. He emphasized "They need a QB and have never been able to find one" , said he wanted to get Smith in Free agency and KC won the trade.

Interesting that he said McCloughan basically underestimated Kirk's value. No wonder Kirk wanted out, from being second fiddle to RG3 to listening to ridiculous low ball offers from the team.

And like we all thought, should have traded him to SF when they had the chance. Probably could have got a nice package of picks for him.

Jay had a good point that as the HC you can't control the culture if you don't have a say in who comes or goes. Ron has that at least.

I hope someone plays the interview for Ron...just so he truly knows what kind of boss he really has in Dan, and maybe he knows already...but I'll bet he's never seen the side of Dan that Jay did.

I preface this with saying I have not listened to the interview so my judgement mainly comes from the comments on the board. No one forced Gruden to stay for 5 years ending up with a net worth of 12Million dollars for coaching this team in a sea of mediocrity. From the comments here, I hear a whining motivationally challenged leader who neither inspired players, nor earned enough respect to even call the most basic goal line play in existence. Gruden may not have known DS before the RGIII/KC debacle, but by the Haskins draft he certainly had enough leverage to say if I don't get to pick the QB I'm leaving (and at that point someone would have hired him as a HC).

This isn't a defense of Snyder, but it's a fallacy at the highest to say that JG couldn't control the culture. He set the culture by accepting mediocrity, by not standing up for his players, and by being inept at understanding his players (for example: why set your qb up for failure by calling a play the WR doesn't like). The KC kneel even more now highlights a myriad of failures at a leadership level on both the part of KC and on Gruden.

He wasn't whining and he acknowledged he knew what he was signing up for. He was just speaking to the challenges here. It's a good listen check it out.
