Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I finally saw Inception,wasnt impressed.I thought the first hour & half were Inceptionally boring,when they entered the final dream sequence it picked up some.Special effects were good,but you can say that about a lot of movies.At least the story was original{that I know of}
I'd give it a 2.5 out of 4,maybe a second look on dvd will make me appreciate it more

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
saw shutter island late saturday night. it was alright, not a horror movie at all which i didnt think it would be but i thought it would atleast have some elements of an oldschool horror movie.
wasnt bad, wasnt great. has me alil worried about seeing inception, seems like htown got the smae feeling from that as i did with shutter.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
saw the movie The Lovely Bones last night on HBO. i didnt have high hopes for it to begin with after reading the info on it but it was chance to turn the lights down low and cuddle up.
I wont ruin it for you with specific outlining. Well dont see it. It started off ok and with some promise but man, the last 45 mins it had some of the studipest most random events that circumvent any type of consistency or foreshadowing or quality storytelling. These random events that come out of nowhere with no foundation or foreshadowing greatly effect the overall storyline. piss poor writing. why spend time developing a storyline then to just have the main character die from swerving his car to avoid a random squirrell that runs into the street? this didnt happen, just an example.

Maybe it's just me, but I ALWAYS want a happy ending (in movies AND massages). But seriously, I never leave a movie that ended all artsy-fartsy where the main character dies or it just ends up depressing saying, "Damn! So glad that ended that way. A happy ending would have just been TERRIBLE."

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Shutter Island is one of my favorite books and I think that's a big reason why I liked the movie as much as I did. I usually hate it when people say this but I think it really is one of those movies where you should also read the book. Personally, I'm always amazed that people who never read the book Fight Club like the movie as much as they do because I think it's really the same way.
Yes, it's "twisty for twisty sake" but the book was written that way on purpose. It was made to be kind of a throw back, pulp fictiony (not the movie but the genre) story.

Fight Club was definitely both a great book and film adaptation. Palahniuk is one crazy writer. |

Also finally saw American Me in its' entireity last night. I've watched parts before but never the whole thing. What an awesome movie. I don't want to give away anything but since it came out in '92 I'm fairly certain most people here won't be too mad about me giving anything away since it came out 18 years ago. So don't read from this point on if you don't want to know what happens. The whole storyline about the guys starting the gang wayyy back in the day as a means to protect themselves, and then at the end when they kill their leader for being too soft, I think it really highlights how gangs have evolved in this country. And nobody talks about this but look at how gangs destroy families. I wouldn't be suprised if gangs have told members who have family that they have to choose between killing a family member or betraying their gang and that some people have chosen to kill family members just to stay in the gang. |

I finally saw Zombieland the other night and I really liked it, more than I thought I would. The BM cameo was so classic.

Yeah I know right? I was just saying to myself I wonder where he's been, I hadn't seen him in a new movie in a while. It was like a sign haha. I wish he'd keep making movies.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Murray was taking a break from acting, but he is back as of 2010, his IMDB shows him in a few movies, one that he has a lead role in.
