Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
Mac Jones seems like a career backup to me, I dunno, just doesn't get me excited

I just don't understand this hesitation to getting a top flight QB. Hell, Tampa Bay just showed how a stacked team could not succeed with shitty QB play (Winston).

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
He's been compared to Eli Manning, great pocket awareness, accurate, average arm and can't move a lick

49ers make sense, Denver doesn't make sense to me. Plus I can see Houston not wanting to trade Watson to another AFC team.

Yes, they'll roll over none-conference opponents easily, but the SEC is no cakewalk. This is why you see so many top draft picks from SEC schools, not just Alabama. Their schedule this year had no cupcake teams: Missouri, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Tennessee Georgia, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Auburn, LSU, Arkansas, Florida, Notre Dame and Ohio State. I'd been repeating the plan of Alex Smith, Mac Jones and Taylor Heinicke being our QBs in 2021. By the time Smith is finished, Mac should be ready and he would've had the best teacher in the NFL to learn from.

One day I feel this exact same way* then the next day I think he's worth the risk at 19. Going to be interesting to see where he ends up.

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
I just have a hard time believing he's a top 20 prospect and would be in the top 20 on anyone's draft board. Top 50 maybe.

All the mocks do seem to have him going before pick 20 though. It's a supply/demand issue at the most important position. Teams are willing to not pick the best player available, and take a chance on a QB early. It's how we got Chase Young last year. He was the best player in the draft, but Cincinnati desperately needed a QB and selected Burrow. |

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
I'm sure many of you have read this too ... but hell .. Heinicke is going to be the next Kurt Warner (or Matt Flynn) ... we're good to go! (kidding)
https://riggosrag.com/2021/02/12/tay...xt-matt-flynn/ Honestly, reading this breakdown, I had no idea Heinicke was roughly the same size as Kurt Warner, with a similar background of "minor league" experience, and team hopping. In my head, I guess I thought of Heinicke as this little dude we scraped off the trash heap to plug in and play because he knew our system. But he's definitely more than that. And because our front office was responsible in how we signed him, there's really no way he can become the next Matt Flynn. As the linked piece above also says, this does NOT mean we shouldn't find another QB to bring to the competition. But it does make me feel better about the potential for Taylor Heinicke. He actually may have some potential. |
