Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Or a 2nd year player that only got 1 start his rookie season due to Heinicke doing just enough to kill our draft stock.

I'm not watching this week if Howell isn't playing.

Agreed. This just validates that he's clueless as some have been saying. I've been trying to defend the man, but if this is true, it's plain idiotic.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Seen an article suggesting he'll play both TH and Howell. Seems a dumb idea, given he knows what he has (and doesn't) with TH and we're out of the post season. Just give Howell the whole game and be done with it. Use it to see how Howell plays in a real game. Anything else is just muddled thinking, especially at TH is an FA afterwards.

If we draft Levis -- which would be fitting for this front office -- I'll find better ways to waste my Sunday afternoons. As if this franchise hasn't already given me ample reasons to do this. Levis is a much lesser version of Zach Wilson. Who was also hyped beyond belief coming off the covid year, where BYU had to put together a schedule of randoms, which he predictably dominated. I hope Howell is the answer. It'd be great if he was. The rookie salary would be possible to build around. And we have big needs, plus Payne to figure out. None of this really matters with Danny boy still owning things. So I just wasted 5 minutes typing all this out. ha. . |

The ONLY reason Howell is getting the nod because Heinicke went to the staff and told 'em Howell deserved to play and play the entire game. Otherwise, Rivera had made a moRONic move. |

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
We won't know our priority needs until Monday. If Howell comes out firing, starting QB could be his to lose which changes the current picture. If he stinks to high heaven then OL and QB are to of the list. Question is where do we fill those holes from. For me, we might be able to fill 3-4 positional needs from FA, particularly OL. If Howell is the guy then we need a vet QB as backup (presuming TH is gone), and ideally that's an FA not a trade. That then frees us up to use the draft to get BPA across the board.
So I'd target LB, OL (2-3) and TE from FA, then OL, CB, and LB in the draft, with probably another QB and RB thrown in. If we draft another WR in the early rounds someone wants shooting. I'm presuming we re-sign Payne or he gets tagged. If neither, that's another headache to solve. |

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
It's likely that this team will once again NOT be a destination of choice, even more so with the current ownership situation. Just can't see all that being ironed out in time for all the offseason deadlines with free agency, etc. We'll see...
I would like them to try to bring back DT Da'Ron Payne, S/ST Jeremy Reaves, LB Cole Holcomb, C Tyler Larsen, G Wes Schweitzer. Everyone else can find another home. I would like them to try to sign a Veteran QB, LB, CB, T, and G in free agency. Here's my short list: Jacoby Brissett, Roquan Smith, James Bradberry, Orlando Brown Jr, and Roger Saffold Draft: QB, G, T, C, DL/E, S, CB, LB - not necessarily in that order. I don't see a need for a TE or a WR at this point. Could always add a RB, TE or WR, but neither of those positions feel like even close to a priority with all the other holes and depth needed. |
