How about those Red Zone problems???

5 Red zone trips, 3 td's 1 FG, 1 kneel down.

I like that

Playing against a team like GB that's the type of RZ production you need.

Safe to say that Smith is much better in the RZ than that other guy was.

One more random thought: Isn't it about time we started giving props to Chase Roullier? He is becoming one helluva good Center, IMHO.

I hope that was enough to protect me from Matty as I launch into a mild criticism of our roster. Still, you never know when Schneed might strike, so I know I'm vulnerable.

OK, now I want to talk about a worrisome aspect of the team going forward. That is the lack of production by our Edge Rushers. After three games, we have only 1 sack total by the four of them. Improbably, that sack came from Ryan Anderson, Frenchy's adopted son.

Skipping the details, if we hope to make the post season this year, then somehow, someway we must find an effective pass rusher on the edge as soon as possible. We've hit the jackpot with our interior pass rushers, IMHO. but we need a better outside rush to reach the next level of NFL defenses.

If the team's executives are telling Jay Gruden that he must win this season to keep his job, then they have a moral obligation to help him find the players he needs to do it. And they need to get started by finding a productive Edge Rusher right now. A trade should not be ruled out and it may even turn out to be the preferred way to go. Meanwhile, I'd give tryouts to every unemployed Edge Rusher who has any chance at all of being able to help plug this hole.
I think it's more we need OLB that can cover out of the backfield. Our front 4 seem to be devastating the lines at this point, but all 3 qb's have found success dumping it to the outlet. With the Saints and Kamara on tap, that could be devastating.

One play I remember from yesterday was the announcers talking about how RK needed to be released to get Rodgers, and almost on queue, the D tried that. The result was Rodgers throwing a lob to the release back for a first down.

Re: Post game Packers

This may be a stretch but after film analysis on the Viks game, that may have been the worst game Kirk has had in a long long time. Yikes. Anyway moving on from KC, yes yesterday was much better in the rz, that laser Alex threw to Crowder was sick

Your edge rushing post annoyed me enough as it was. And now this. Roullier played Guard yesterday.

I think your point still stands that he has become a valuable piece but it's just funny how wrong you are so often.

Kerrigan has been very effective in all three games this year (check the pressures on PFF). Preston Smith definitely needs to step it up though. He has a way of being streaky, hopefully he goes on a hot streak soon.

Couple stats from Espn team offense/defense

4th best rushing offense yards per game 137.7

Passing yards and points per game are just average.

Defense:

2nd best yards per game 278 and 2nd best 14.7 points per game

8th best rushing yards allowed per game at 90.7 yards per game. 5th best passing yards per game: 187.3 yards per game.

Preston Smith isn't streaky. The only times he's produced were against backups. I may be wrong about this, too, but that is my impression of him. I think Smith is a flat out bust.

Pshhh ESPN Stats... JK

Yeah I love the new run heavy system! It's old school football and if we can keep it up watch out.

Re: Post game Packers

One aspect about the pass rush...the Dline has been extremely good which allows our secondary to play how they want/how they need meaning....doubling, aggressive zone, and overall team coverage.

So the effect of not needing to bring a lot of folks to get pressure is really helping overall coverage in the secondary. Don't have to play man all over the field which allows for way more risk.

Im not about that zero blitz life where its all or nothing...

Everything is good when we can. But there will be times where we can't, like against Indy. That is when we're going to have to be more balanced.

PS is the 2nd option at Edge, he isn't as good as Ryan. Although RK has been off but he played better yesterday.
