Stocks may rise and fall by the week with fans, but the people doing the hiring look big picture

Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
I ain't saying his stock goes down if they don't put 30 on the board, but does his stock go down if the offense gets completely shut down - 2005 Mark Brunell against Tampa Bay style? Maybe.

Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
The biggest decision could be Ben Johnson vs Mike MacDonald for HC. You pass on a guy because he coaches defense vs offense…that type of thinking could put our franchise back more than who you draft 2nd
You have to be a leader of men

Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
RG is such a bitch. How can anyone stand that guy for more than 10 minutes? He is so damn annoying. Ever since he came out w/ his stupid ass tee shirt for a pre season game I have disliked that guy.. Operation Patience?? Who does crap like that? Should have never drafted that punk.
But anyways MacDonald has that Ravens D playing great. I'd love for that guy to be our coach. |

Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Big Mac is the answer. The whole world coaches offense. It's easy to find an OC. A dime a dozen.

Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
I am hoping for Mike MacDonald, but I trust this ownership group and Peters to make the call. Of course, there are so many intangibles that won't reveal themselves until 2 seasons in...
I just want the deal done (except I will wait for MacDonald LOL) |

My question is - if we hire him does he still run the defense and call plays? Or does he find the next Mike Macdonald to be his coordinator?

Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
You have to bear in mind that McDonald has a great defensive roster, disappointed that we didn't go for Roquan Smith or the safety, but obviously All Pros that don't have position flex at OT aren't of any real use. Not that I am bitter at all.

Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
He also did it in Michigan and Baltimore before that. If we would have been our DC when Montez was here, he would had that D playing instead of underachieving. He’s ready to be a HC and I hope he’s the one picked.

Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Frankly, I'm not overly fussed about a D or an O coach being HC, I'm most concerned that he's exhibited the skills to turn a team into champions. Whether a great OC or DC, it's not the ability to build a great O or D, it's about the whole team. They're not going to interview any of these guys based purely on how good a scheme they have put together in recent years, that's just one factor. Did they get the best out of their players? How? What's their plan to help the GM build a strong, sustainable roster plan? How did they handle adversity? Star player ego's? and so forth.
Yes being a great OC or DC is of course important in lining up a candidate, but the job is so much more. |

Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Exactly. One game isn't going to stop an owner/GM from pulling the trigger on a HC job offer.
