Re: Positives & Negatives: Coles' release

Our secondary will own them all. I REALLY REALLY wish something could get worked out that would at LEAST keep Smoot on the team.

Maybe we should get cocky about our seconary when we know we have a 2nd cornerback.

Re: Positives & Negatives: Coles' release

They are reporting on the wfan that Coles could be released as early as tommorow and the reason for his asking to be released is a meeting he had with Gibb's sighting the team's reluctance to throw the ball downfield, so I guess Gibb's reply was we will continue NOT to throw the ball downfield so we might as well part way's.

This coupled with comment's by opposing scout's saying that our offense is nothing special, and the scheme's are simple and easy to diagnois doesn't bold well in my confidence that Gibb's still has it, I guess were going to find out though.

They traded the pick to the Bears along with their other #1 to move up to draft Dewayne Robertson.. The Bears turned around and sent that pick to the Pats for Ty Warren.. Neither player (nor team) really benefited from that deal..

Jerome McDougal, Troy Palomalu and Dallas Clark are the only players of impact that were drafted after the 13th pick the Redskins would have had.

On Coles, if he wants to leave then kick rocks, get the hell out.. I would prefer the Redskins try to restructure his contract and make a trade so they can get something for him rather than let him just walk for no return..

To replace him then I'd like to see them go after Derrick Mason and draft Mike Williams to put with Jacobs and Thrash and hopefully McCants to form a formidable WR corps.. Without better playcalling (which Breaux, Bugel and Gibbs all admitted needed to be improved) and QB play it doesn't matter who is on the field..

Re: Positives & Negatives: Coles' release

dammit guys, having Jansen back won't do near enough to fix this MESS of an offense. neither will Musgrave.

we're in a serious pickle here. we need to hope for:

3) we get an actual non-bust receiver in the draft who can PLAY
2) Taylor Jacobs comes out and has a surprise breakout year ala "Fierce like Pierce"

1) Joe Gibbs already had a tremendous adjustment job looming, now he has to COMPLETELY rebuild, and with new pieces, then make it second nature by next season.

dammit dammit

Although it's possible that Gibbs' thinking was "so long as you and Gardner are my top receivers I'm not throwing it downfield..but if I can find some other receivers that may change"

I mean time and again he kept saying the problem is more than just Brunell, I guess he thought it might have been the WRs more than any of us thought

Paintrain:

Wow, the Skins would have had a shot at Polamalu or Dallas Clark? Those are both very good players. McDougal is OK but not nearly at the level of the other two.

SmootSmack - who can blame him. Running curl routes gets annoying.

Re: Positives & Negatives: Coles' release

curls? maybe on a good day. how many of LC's catches were behind the line on screens? to Gibb's and Coles's credit, it did produce some yards, but it was hardly an 'air attack'

That's very true, ill. He caught more screens under Gibbs than with Spurrier!
