Re: What REALLY grinds your gears?
I feel bad for some of the other people who work at restaurants too. Like if the service is bad, I seriously consider not coming back to a place. This is why even if the waiter is RIGHT there, I'll ask for a manager and tell him about the problems I had. I know it isn't our problem, but no one will ever know if the service is bad if you don't tell the manager.

Re: What REALLY grinds your gears?
This is pretty long, but I have to really get this out. You would have to ride the Metro here in D.C. to appreciate this one.
During rushing hour everyone stands to the right and those that want to move freely do so on the left side. Even if no one is actually moving up or down the left side, the passengers standing on the right never break ranks. This is an unspoken Metro code. It's almost like train ettiquette. (this rule always applies except when I'm trashed) Every now and then, however, you'll get these knuckle heads that just stand there talking to their boyfriend or girl, on their cell, or they're just from out of town. I usually have no problem with folks travelling or visiting. Trust me, you know who they are! Well one day the line was so backed up on the left side (are you guys following me?) because someone at the very front just refused to move. So I hear my train barrelling down the tunnell...I'm thinking I know someone closer than me is going to either push this asshole or say something! By this time I can actually see people boarding, the escalator seemed to have slowed some, and old boy is at the front picking his nose, I guess! Without even thinking I blurted, "getta outta da way!". You ever see the credit card commercial where everyone is swiping their credit card and moving with the flow, then this one guy pulls out cash and screws everything up? Then after he leaves everything starts to move again. Yeah, that's how it looked after I yelled at the guy. |

Re: What REALLY grinds your gears?
I basically quit a decent paying job in DC because I hated taking Metro everyday. Christmas time and when the Cherry Blossoms bloomed were by far the worst.

AMD, you mean to tell me you didn't get enough tips from your Spider Man impersonations on the Metro?

Hahaha, no, they didn't go over as well with the 7am work crowd as they did with the post-Caps game crowd. People are too uptight in the morning.

Re: What REALLY grinds your gears?
I hate hate hate the metro!!!! Rode it for two years. I would rather sit in the world's worst traffic jam then ride that horrible POS!
You know when you have been riding it to long when you can play this game. Name all the spots from where you start to your end destation, also tell me which side the doors open on (left or right) at each of those stops, whether it is a underground station or above ground, and does it have parking. I use to know this for my trip and I rode back and fourth everyday from Vienna to Woodly Park. So horrible. If you are not having a bad day go spend some time grabing connecting trains in Metro center between 5am and 9am or 4pm to 7pm, that will surely ruin your day! |

Re: What REALLY grinds your gears?
I remember trying to rush home so that my family could go out for MY birthday dinner after work a few years back. Rushing home doesn't work when you're riding the Metro, and that day it was especially bad because apparently one train decided to try to hump another one...
I think it took me an extra 2 hours to get home and by that time it was too late to get anything besides pizza or fast food.

Re: What REALLY grinds your gears?
That's a great story 12th. What always amazes me about the Metro in DC is how inevitably at every station, at least one escalator isn't working. And there have been at least a handful of times that I've been in the middle of a long escalator ride and suddenly it just stops.
I think Toronto actually has the best subway system I've been on.

Re: What REALLY grinds your gears?
The fact that my power steering and some related parts are busted and it looks like it's going to cost me around $1000 to get it all fixed.
