Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
Heard the news on Elliot in the Morning this morning and it caught me completely by suprise.
The first thing that popped into my head was an old saying that i'm about to butcher along the lines of, "once people get what they've wanted forever, sometimes they don't know what to do with it." What I mean by that is, now that we the fans have gotten what we've wanted for so long, how will we adjust if the Bruce Allen era doesn't go any better, or perhaps even worse, than Cerrato's tenure? Will Bruce Allen get a pass even if he doesn't work any better than Cerrato did, just because he might not've done anything as remotely stupid as Cerrato might've done? For me, here's to a long and successfull tenure of Bruce Allen/whatever coach he wants to hire. May he fare much better than his predecessor. |

Vinny: Listen John, Steve, remember when you won the Super Bowl with Plaxico Burress on your team? Well thats what the Giants need to get back to. Imagine this, 2 Plaxico Burresses!!! John Mara: But Vinny we already have a good receiving core. Possibly the best up and coming one in the league. Vinny: John John John, you can never have to many recievers. I remember when I was Executive Vice President of Football Operations, or EVPFO for short................

Interviewed on NFL Network, Allen said,
"The burgundy and gold are special..." "...those darn Dallas Cowboys..." I love the Redskin pride! The first coming of Allen had us in contention almost every year...I hope that the Second Coming of Allen does the same.

This is a repost from another thread:
You'll probably see me say this a lot over the next few weeks but Bruce Allen has a reputation for drafting OL early and often, especially when he was in Tampa with Gruden. Heres a few guys that have been drafted early by Allen. First when he was a Senior Executive in Oakland and then as a GM in Tampa 1997: 3rd Round 72 Oakland Raiders Adam Treu Nebraska 85 Oakland Raiders Tim Kohn Offensive guard Iowa State 1998: 1st Round: 23 Oakland Raiders (from Tampa Bay Buccaneers) Mo Collins Offensive Tackle Florida 2nd Round: 31 Oakland Raiders Leon Bender Offensive Tackle Washington State 4th Round: 109 Oakland Raiders (from Washington) Gennaro DiNapoli Offensive Guard Virginia Tech 5th Round: 152 Oakland Raiders (from Green Bay) Travian Smith Offensive Tackle Oklahoma 1999: 1st Round: 18 Oakland Raiders Matt Stinchcomb Tackle Georgia 2002: 2nd Round: 53 Oakland Raiders (from Tampa Bay) Langston Walker Guard California 2004: 5th Round 146 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Jeb Terry Guard North Carolina 2005: 3rd Round: 91 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (from San Diego) Chris Colmer Offensive Tackle NC State 4th Round: 107 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Dan Buenning Offensive Guard Wisconsin 2006: 1st Round: 23 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Davin Joseph Guard Oklahoma 2nd Round: 59 Tampa Bay Jeremy Trueblood Offensive Tackle Boston College 2007: 2nd Round: 35 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Arron Sears Offensive Tackle Tennessee 2008: 3rd Round: 83 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Jeremy Zuttah Offensive guard Rutgers

^ Wow he definitely always overloads offense linemen.. Given our history w/ injuries and such, it might be good thing..

Perhaps I was wrong...
NFL.com Blogs Jason La Canfora « Quote:
If JLC's sources are correct and hiring Allen is just the first step, and we bring in DeCosta to handle personnel matters, hire Shanahan to coach the team and run the offense, and retain Jerry Gray as DC, I will do a backflip. There's not much more Snyder could to make me happy.

No, because in all likelihood we will draft some lineman. If our offense gets better instantly then everyone on here will think they have what it takes to GM the redskins.

To me the biggest issue here is not whether Allen (or Vinny for that matter) is the person to lead the team. The biggest issue is that we have overhauled the organizational structure. Even if Allen fails, presumably we will bring in another real GM and continue to have a real FO structure. Thank you Snyder!
