I agree with you 12th.
This kid seemed to be a sociopath rather than a psychopath

Antisocial personality disorder - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Psychopathy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'd try to get more into this but my computer is acting up right now. Stupid cheap ass company.

Quote:
The difference between sociopathy and psychopathy, according to Hare, may "reflect the user's views on the origins and determinates of the disorder."[34] Most sociologists, criminologists and even some psychologists believe the disorder is caused by social conflicts, and thus prefer the term 'sociopath.' Those who believe as Hare does, that a combination of psychological, biological, genetic and environmental factors all contribute to the disorder are more likely to use the term 'psychopath'.

David T. Lykken proposes that psychopathy and sociopathy are two distinct kinds of antisocial personality. He holds that psychopaths are born with temperamental differences such as impulsivity, cortical underarousal, and fearlessness that lead them to risk-seeking behavior and an inability to internalize social norms; sociopaths, on the other hand, have relatively normal temperaments; their personality disorder being more an effect of negative sociological factors like parental neglect, delinquent peers, poverty, and extremely low or extremely high intelligence. Both personality disorders are, of course, the result of an interaction between genetic predispositions and environmental factors, but psychopathy leans towards the hereditary whereas sociopathy tends towards the environmental

EXACTLY!!!! Their fame is brief at best. They all fall under the name "Gunman" once time has past.

However, in this specific incident we were dealing with an individual that was cognizant enough to sit in classes in a major university, took care of his own basic needs day in and day out, had the presence of mind to buy a gun and many other things that normal people do. What I'm getting at is this kid seemed somewhat normal.
Exactly.

Absolutely. He was crazy enough to think up and carry out something as horrific as this, but at the same time he was 'sane' enough to be sort of overlooked or just seen as a weird kid.

For this reason you can't hold the VA Tech adminstration soley responsible for this.

In hindsight, I think things could have been done differently. But to suggest that the healthcare system failed or this or that person should have done better, is more knee jerk than anything.

It's just a horrible, horrible thing that has happened.

Our Mental Health system in this country is pathetic. Insurance only covers up to a 5 day stay in a hospital unless the person has hurt someone or themselves.. and once they do go in the docs are forced to let these people out because of refusal of payment from insurance. It IS the systems fault.
I'm sorry but to blame the insurance Co is just plane BS as you have know idea what went on. Its just the easy thing to do to blame the insurance co. Now if you have information that they would not treat the guy or if he even had health ins. please give us the link. I'm in the Insurance business (I do not sell health Ins.) but I get tired of hearing these blanket statements about how its some how the insurance co, fault when you have no clue of the details.

I said before that the media wasn't asking the right questions. Finally, FINALLY! someone is bringing this to light. This the exact same thing I have been harping on the last few days.

I agree 110%.

It's really amazing how insurance companies are portrayed as the big bad guy all the time.

I'm not trying to put anyone down here, but frankly I think in large part these blanket statements are due to ignorance and a misguided understanding of what insurance really is, and how it works.

I get the idea that the general thought is that insurance companies should just always pay, pay, pay and pay. If that was the case we would simply not have insurance as we know it.
