I was quoting it because of the "over the topness" of of it. Not that I agreed with it.

He laid out several instances where not having a gun cost people's lives. He did it in a sarcastic tone and proclaimed "I am weird" several times meaning "I am weird when I think people shouldn't be able to protect themselves". Then he wrapped it all up by talking how all the instances he gave were repeat offenders and that had they been shot they wouldn't have caused anymore harm. Then the line was said.

It is not long. You should watch it for entertainment value.

Uh oh...hostility alert! LOL

It never ceases to amaze me how we as humans can get into such heated arguments over things that we generally have no control over. (myself included)

Your post implied it and I inferred that perhaps you think it is. You're 42, don't you think you're a bit too old for honing your street fighting skills from time to time?

p.s. I'm a chicken shit and I've been sheltered my whole life so you'll have to excuse me.

Anwyas I tend to agree with you but thought you were a little off base with that initial statement. I don't advocate a totally uncontrolled gun population either. I just find the arguments that guns aren't really protective silly.
If someone wants to kill you're always at a disadvantage, whether you're packing or not.

Never to old bro, wake up. I don't mind controlled fighting either, you have to be capable of protecting yourself and I don't know how old you are and don't rightly care, because it doesn't matter, same rule applies.

P.S. No problem, your excused! lol

I think what he's trying to say is that in the end, each individual is ultimately responsible for protecting himself. 9 times out of 10, the government and the police are there to apprehend and incarcerate those who have already committed a crime. By then, it's too late for the victim.

The key here is individual rights. You have the right to protect yourself and your family with deadly force, if faced by an aggressor with a deadly weapon. No, the good guys don't always win. Surprise is the advantage of the attacker. And many times, that can be the deciding factor. But it's far better to be armed with fighting chance, than to be unarmed with no chance at all.

Well all you have to do is compare the murder rate in the US with other modern industrial countries in which guns are prohibited. The US is significantly higher. For those who argue that guns deter crime, how do you explain that discrepancy?

I don't think anyone is saying that. Crime and murder will always exist, regardless of the availability of firearms.

The question I have for you is, do you have the right to defend yourself?
