The #19 overall pick this year and that's it.

Why? Because we don't have the draft capital to compete with everybody else, and I sure as fuck don't want to lose 1 or 2 gold chip players on our roster in addition to 1 or 2 first rounders it will take to get him.

Watson just seems so unreasonable that I can't even fathom it happening or what it would cost.

Would people take Tua for 19 or 19 and a 4th?

Last year Tua was considered one of the best QB in the 2019 draft. If we only give up our first draft pick this year, he’s still a very good prospect AS WELL AS Heinicke. We have a very, very good chance to get our franchise QB with either of them; WITHOUT having to break the bank!

Get Tua and sign Heinicke! Use the draft and FA to fill the holes:

FA: one elite WR, very good middle LB, TE, WR
Draft: OL (more than one), S, CB, WR

Skinsfaninok might have a boner reading this.

Watson is a very talented QB, but he is not an instant plug and play superstar. He has some work to do in his game. He is not a Mahomes or Aaron Roger that is ready to be tops in the NFL. Watson holds on to the ball to long. He improvises too much and needs to be more disciplined. To be fair, with some good coaching and work to break him of his bad habits, he is not far from being great. But IMO he is not there yet.
I would not sell the farm to get a Qb that has holes in his game.
Exactly. And honestly, screw Watson. He should have thought about these things before signing a 4-year $156 million dollar contract. His contract isn't even 5 months old. Screw him. Screw OBJ. Screw all the players like them that take boatloads of cash from teams, which represents a long-term investment in them, and then show no loyalty in return. If Watson had reservations he shouldn't have signed the new contract. Now he has it, and the team is on the hook for huge guarantees and hoses cap without him, he wants out? Tough. He was happy to take that $27M signing bonus though. Sure he's going to refund that, right? Nope. Screw him. Even if Houston wants to, trading him hoses their cap massively. I'll believe Watson is some great guy when he talks about giving Houston their $27M signing bonus back. Guy like that won't be loyal to us either. Bottom line: if you have reservations about long term future with team, don't sign a fat new deal with them. Screw these turds that take the boatloads of money and then hose the team that gave it to them.

I agree with your basic assessment that he isn't a honed pocket passer. He is another running QB who uses athleticism as substitute for learning to read Ds and become a superb passer. Eventually, he's going to take bad hits and get hurt, like all running QBs do, going back to at least Steve Young. You want a primary pocket passer who avoids most big hits, runs only as an absolute last resort, and has longevity. With what QBs cost, and with how rare a commodity a franchise QB is, you don't want your QB doubling as a running back, period.

There are QBs just as good as any of the guys homers are talking about trading for, in the draft this year, you just have to commit to finding one.

Where does this ridiculousness come from?
Miami isn't trading Tua for a single 1st round pick.
Even if they would, he has major injury issues.
You draft a franchise QB, you take the hard road which is the only way to long-term success.
We just set the record giving up on Haskins in year two. Tua gets at least a second year in Miami. Can everyone please put the bongs down and stop it with the pipe-dream trades that would be dumb even if possible?

Put him on a team that has talent on offense, a great defense, and good coaching, and he can win.
I would say Carr is a bit above average, but hardly someone you trade for. He is rolling up on 30.

Stafford has a more elite physical skill set, especially arm strength and better deep ball accuracy, but that doesn't mean I love either.

Like rocnik said, at least with Stafford you know what you're getting.
It isn't possible. If Cleopatra and Helen of Troy materialize in my bedroom (fantasy world), be a great threesome. Ridiculous hypotheticals are a waste of time.

And honestly, I wouldn't trade for Stafford even for the #19 straight up because it is surrendering long-term value for a short-term stopgap. We know what we're getting, a very good but not great QB who is 33 next season, and has taken an absolute beating in Detroit, and has maybe 2-3 good years left, and it will take us 2 years minimum before we can be contender. I'd rather fill a long-term hole such as LT or CB or draft a QB we have for 5 years on a rookie deal, period.

You accept we aren't close to being a contender. You continue building, including with rookie QB you draft, or two of them. You don't trade premium picks for players on the backside of their career.

Stafford will give you 5 years of as sure a thing as you can get in the NFL. You could trade up to 8 to try and guess at a qb, but you lose all hope if, as our history has shown, he doesn't pan out.
Obviously the trade and extended contract have to be in reason but dismissing the idea of bringing in a proven vet seems ridiculoulsy obstinate.

As for Tua, IF Watson wants to go to Miami and IF Miami wants Watson that opens the door for negotiations on Tua.

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021

Apparently people believe in medical advancements up until trading for a 33 year old QB.

Every time I get on the internet I'm hoping for a WFT QB move.

Yeah. I am hoping something happens before the SB. If we have to go through the whole run up to the draft without a QB - just kill me now.

Yeah most likely, but I was suggesting a 3 way trade where we get Tau, Miami gets Watson and Houston gets the 3rd overall pick they got from Houston and our 19th, meaning miami keeps their 18th pick.

I don't know that it works or that Tua is worth it, just think there would be some chance to make that work for everyone.
