I understand it happens, I just cant say that's his best move. I'm sure he's done better things then that.

Re: The Best of Vinny

Vinny had a lot of good picks. Someone beat me to the punch with Jarmon, while unproven I love the pick. Horton was a great pickup. Marcus Washington and Springs were great FA signings. He really wasn't that bad at picking guys in the draft. Did he have some busts, sure, but none were monumental.

To the guy asking about Taylor. I thought G Williams wanted Taylor and Gibbs wanted KWII.

In Vinny's 2 years as EVP we didn't sign those guys, we lost them.

I think it's going to be the Devin Thomas pick. I'm really excited to see what Shanahan (allegedly) will be able to do with him. I think he's got Brandon Marshall like abilities if he's being put in positions to succeed.

Re: The Best of Vinny

My personal one was when Mark Brunell was signed in 2004 to a 7 year, 43 million dollar contract when Mark at the time was 33 years old. I'm not sure if that was Vinny or not, but even though Mark was my favorite player here, i still thought the move was crazy given his age...we would have been much better off to do a higher paid contract over a shorter period of time, IMO...

Rogers was a solid pick IMO i think that when you look at players you to look at both the good & bad he isn't a bust. Orapko was Vinny's best selection the last two years read SS original post but Sean Taylor all-time.

Was it drafting Brian Orakpo?

Maybe it was signing Hunter Smith?

Finding Chris Horton in the 7th round?

Resurrecting Mike Williams' career?

I am starting to think this not so great. I think Horton might just be a flash in the pan but we will see.

Vinny didn't handle contracts though, and that move was all Gibbs.

The years weren't really significant, obviously neither party thought he was going to here for 7 years. It was just the way the deal was structured to stretch out and lessen the cap hits. If you do a shorter deal, his cap impact would have been much higher.

During Gibbs 2.0, Vinny's job was to provide talent evaluations leading up to free agency and the draft. In that regard, the Skins passing on Kellen Winslow to draft Sean Taylor, then trading up to the 3rd round to get Cooley (the first two draft choices of Gibbs 2.0) may have been Vinny's finest hour here. That said, Gibbs had final say on all moves during his 2nd tour of duty.
