Re: Official Nationals and Orioles 2011 Thread
Phillies for me. Orioles are my second fav though, if I had to name a 2nd fav.
I got my Redskin fandom from my father who was a fanatic; I was born in Alexandria but moved to Philly when I was 4. I was raised by a Redskin fanatic and the rest is history. As for baseball though, with no team in DC at the time we were weakly attached to the Orioles. But without that strong fatherly influence on the baseball side my surroundings took over and I became "one of them". A Philadelphia fan. Thank heavens my dad saved me on the side that matters most, football. But yeah, I dig seeing the O's do well. Don't like the Nats at all though.

Re: Official Nationals and Orioles 2011 Thread
I'm an O's fan by nature, but root for the Nats as well.
I'm loving what Showalter has done for the O's. He and MacPhail have done a great job retooling the roster for a run this year. That lineup, when on, could go hit for hit with anyone in the Majors. Hopefully the young arms give them the innings they need, and that they can get a #1 before the trade deadline, instead of trading players away and packing it in. The Nationals have a solid roster as well, but just are still a bit green. Once these guys get a few weeks under their belts, we'll see what they're made of.

Re: Official Nationals and Orioles 2011 Thread
Oh well, Orioles game looks like a bust tonight but at least the Caps won and the Heat are possibly going to end up loosing to Milwaukee. Decent night. Also I get to celebrate the fact that there's no more college basketball games.

Re: Official Nationals and Orioles 2011 Thread
Well, that was fun to watch while it lasted. I still think they'll contend for a Wild Card and will finish second in the AL East.

AL East pride! Got to root for AL East teams so people can see that we play in the best division.

Re: Official Nationals and Orioles 2011 Thread
Not a big baseball fan but I'm glad the Orioles are doing well. I work within walking distance of Camden Yards, so I hope to catch a game or two this season.

I'm a White Sox fan and found myself rooting for the rival Indians when watching them play the Red Sox last night...that's how much I dislike them. They're seriously like my Dallas Cowboys of baseball. Sure, my wife is from NY and is a Yanks fan, but aside from that, Boston fans....ugh. I went to an Orioles and Yankees game in Baltimore (I live close to it) and Boston fans...whole families of them dressed in pink Red Sox crap with giant cardboard syringes showed up just to be obnoxious and boo the Yanks. They were also there for a White Sox-Orioles game I went to. Why? I could never spend money to travel and go to a game that my team is not playing in just for the sole reason to protest and harass someone. I don't get it. They're like a swarm of mosquitos that won't go away and always annoy you. (no offense mredskins, but I bet you can agree with me on some of your team's fans)

Re: Official Nationals and Orioles 2011 Thread
^ But the SEC is the greatest conference ever. Any of their teams could beat the Cleveland Browns.
I can't root for conference/division rivals either...unless they're playing the Red Sox or Cowboys.

Good to see the Orioles "were" off to a good start. July and August will tell the true story.

Re: Official Nationals and Orioles 2011 Thread
The Os were never as good as their like 32-26 finish last season nor their 6-1 start this season. . . but they arent as bad the 7 game slide either.
Os should hopefully finish around .500 which will be a huge success for us and allow us to make a big move or 2 this offseason to make a true push for contention in the AL east. We have to go .500 this year to justify a big contract offer for the likes of a prince fielder next offseason. But we need our young pitching prospects make good on their potential this year to be competitive. Kinda cool to see a 5 year plan in action, this year is year 4 where we are supposed to have our young groomed arms show us they can make a competent pitching staff. Next year, all goes well, the Os are going to be competing. The first couple years (1-3) we drafted young pitchers and a top talent catcher. Last season (3rd year into plan) they all got a taste of the big leagues. This year they have to prove we can rely on them. Next year/step is give a player or two one of those 7 yr 160 miml contracts. After that its continuous winning until the core we built up breaks down.
