Re: Pre Draft Thread 2.0
I'm not willing to bet on the selection of any particular players beyond Lawrence. They'll both take a QB, but I'm not ready to say that it is certain who that will be.

Re: Pre Draft Thread 2.0
Strange things have happened don't be surprised if a QB not named Jones falls to us at 19 then we have a decision to make. San Fran will probably trade Garoppolo to NE. Then only Denver is left and they should give Lock one more year.

They invested in a running QB who is not an actual throwing QB. Ravens. You can get everything else right and still never win it big if you botch QB. But Ravens have been good team for years. And they are but one example. Ravens have certain valuations on what certain players are worth, and don't pay them more than that value. So do Pats, or did during dynasty. You think Ravens would have franchised Scherff? Never. The Ravens draft well enough that they can NEVER afford to keep all their talent, which is the point you are missing. EVERY year they have talented players they cannot afford to keep, and most every year they get comp picks, which they then use wisely to draft more talent. . . If you are always trading up, never trading back, always signing tons of FAs, you never get to this point. With a good FO, having 2-4 more picks per year means you will be better than other teams over long term. This is again a case study in why you don't let a coach be GM, they'll almost never take this long term view because their contract is up before the benefits of this strategic long-term approach accrues. Even great guys like RR succumb to this. The other thing is that you almost always overpay in FA, bulk of team should be guys you draft and resign. You'll know we are finally being run properly when we are letting a guy like Scherff or Allen or Kerrigan walk every year. . . |

I'm not sure if I agree with the bold part. I think Lock haven't done much in the last two years.

Re: Pre Draft Thread 2.0
My hope is there will be a mad dash to pick QB's and WR's which hopefully drops a blue chip pick or two to us at 19.
LT and LB are our biggest needs. I think there will be one or one of each to pick from. Let the draft come to us. Don't trade pick and reach. We are set up nicely in this fairly deep draft to get a starter in round 1 and 2. Don't mess it up. Last edited by Defensewins; 04-17-2021 at 02:45 PM. |

Re: Pre Draft Thread 2.0
Keim said the team would be interested in a possible move up if one QB prospect started to fall. Keim also said team would move up but not as far for a particular tackle or LB if they started to fall closer to them.
My guess is they have earmarked their top LB and top Tackle...if either get out of the top 10 then they would be aggressive to move up. The big difference in my opinion is having the 2 3rd round picks this year. Less pain to give a second round pick to jump up if they love a particular player

I could live with this .... outstanding corner, and still get an impact LB in the second round. And Hunter Long in the 5th? Fantastic. |

Just move on from him at this point and cut your losses. It was another stupid ass Dan and Bruce signing that didn't work out. |

Re: Pre Draft Thread 2.0
I found it strange that both Jones and Fields had their pro days on the same day and Kyle went to see Jones. That pretty much tells you all you need to know.
Fields stock seems to be dropping. Just something about those Ohio State QB's. They just never ever seem to pan out in the NFL. Fields best games made him look like the best player in the country. Then you hear he is the last one in and the first to leave. That would scare me. He also could not beat out Jake Fromm which would also scare me. |

Re: Pre Draft Thread 2.0
I don't think the first pick will be a tackle. Vera-Tucker (Guard) would be a good value selection at #19 if he's there though, if they want to go O-lineman.
IMO #19 isn't a great spot for the WFT needs. OF COURSE, if a very highly rated player at a position of need is there at #19 they should take him. However, if the options available don't make sense at that point in the draft, and someone is willing to part with a couple picks to move up to #19, I hope they pull the trigger and do something like this from my PFN mock draft: 27 - Trevon Moehrig, S 51 - Walker Little, OT 58 - Pete Werner, SLB 74 - Kellen Mond, QB 82 - Cameron McGrone, MLB 124 - James Hudson, OT 163 - Tre McKitty, TE 244 - Dez Fitzpatrick, WR |

Yeah! My boy Dez Fitzpatrick sneaks in! I like this draft too. But I think LB is a much bigger need than OT. Were there any LB options in the 2nd that made sense? I hope we can grab Mond. Something tells me he's gonna turn into a Russell Wilson - Dak Prescott type -- a later round draftee that turns into a very good starting QB. Obviously. time will tell. |

"Werner’s size, hand power, and athleticism should afford him a prominent three-down role in an NFL defense..." "is a fascinating fit as a 4-3 SAM backer..." "also lined up at MIKE several times, suggesting that he has positional versatility within a 4-3." I agree LB is a bigger need than OT, but I thought I'd grab Walker Little with my first pick in the 2nd with the LB depth still on the board. He could be a steal. Probably won't play LT right away, but he and Hudson, for me, projected to be the future LT/RT combo. I like Mond as well. I wouldn't mind if they took a flyer on him, Trask, or Mills really. |

Gotcha ... it's always tough to comment on the drafts that are posted, without knowing who else is available. Werner sounds pretty good though. And has versatility, which we know RR puts a premium on. I agree with you on Mond, and Mills. Not so much with Trask. But I'm just a guy watching football on his couch. So what do I know? If Mayhew's statements are to be believed, and not part of a disinformation campaign, I think Mills won't be strongly considered .... Mayhew said he preferred more collegiate starts with his QB prospects. Which cuts against Mills, and Trey Lance, and Justin Fields. Mond has tons of experience, more than anyone else in the draft. |

Pre Draft Thread 2.0
Closer it gets the more i want the best Tackle available. It is absolutely the most important position on your O. Without a good one your QB, WR’s all suffer because it becomes check down city. Unless Lance or Fields is somehow in the conversation. Ill pass on Jones.
If we stay put and take a Tackle at 19 than make LB the next priority. After that go bpa. Hopefully that bpa is a TE, or S. |
