Re: What happens with Kyle Smith?
Yeah, Casserly, Vinny, McCloughan and Allen did a great job, that’s why we haven’t done shit in 30 years.

The one simple fact is we wanted a guy to come in who would not be beholden to DS and would set up a professional football organization. Now that we have someone doing that some people are crying because a guy who thrived in the muck of the WFT front office may be released. Just seems like a contrived reason to gripe about the WFT from a source (Russell) that makes a living doing that. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk |

Re: What happens with Kyle Smith?
Smith has worked Dan for 16 years and drafted for 3.

Re: What happens with Kyle Smith?
Here's the past 9 drafts, players that are still in the league, making an impact - mostly starters, but some are now backups. They are still contributing as compared to other draft picks who are either not in the league or have disappeared on the benches somewhere. 2012 - RGIII, Kirk Cousins, Alfred Morris, Tom Compton 2013 - (no 1st Rd pick) Jordan Reed, Chris Thompson, 2014 - (no 1st Rd pick) Trent Murphy, Morgan Moses, Bashaud Breeland 2015 - Brandon Scherff, Preston Smith, Jamison Crowder, Austin Reiter 2016 - Kendall Fuller, Matt Ioannidis, Nate Sudfeld 2017 - Jonathan Allen, Ryan Anderson, Fabian Moreau, Chase Rouillier 2018 - Daron Payne, Tim Settle 2019 - Montez Sweat, Terry McLaurin, Cole Holcomb, Jimmy Moreland 2020 - Chase Young, Antonio Gibson, Kamren Curl As you can see there were some pretty good picks prior to Kyle Smith and all his glory. There were also some pretty bad picks (not listed) before Kyle and with Kyle. The notion that things are markedly better because of his presence is simply false. You really really like him though, and that's ok. I just don't think he's as much of a difference maker as you would like to believe. |

These are moves that can't be judged today, but I hope we're not looking back in 5 years on Rivera and co. the way we look back at Mike Shanahan or Jay Gruden. Kyle Smith represents the last of the young guns (Kyle S., McVay, LaFleur) to rise up in this organization and move on to better situations elsewhere. Time will tell if he's destined for a starring role but I'm sad to see him go. In the meantime I still trust Ron's process, until the results don't pan out at least.

Like I’ve stated, we know exactly now who Ron has chose and we know who has been passed over... Kyle, and the 2 guys from Chargers and Titans. We will see what happens. The org has let talent out the door before, it’s 1000000% reasonable for the fan base to have doubt. I love Ron and what’s he’s doing...I want these decisions to work out

Re: What happens with Kyle Smith?
I think some of you here may be making Kyle Smith out to be more than he is. He's been great for us - but he's not gotten a SNIFF at being a GM or even an assistant GM anywhere else in the league - including in SF, LA, or GB - all places where former coaches here are now head coaches. Kyle's good, but lets not have illusions that he's some amazing up-and-coming talent primed for a greater role.
I'd suggest that Kyle - at this stage in his career - is in the exact role he should be in. He's good at it - but not good enough to make any one of the 31 other NFL franchises contact him for an interview for a promotion. It's been a dismal 30 years for the franchise, and thats made some of you think Kyle allen is more than he is. Its like we're loser kids in high school who want to marry a girl whos a "3" because we think she's the best we can do. And you know what, in high school, maybe she was. But now that we've graduated college, have a high paying job, lost weight and are in excellent physical shape, and got rid of all that acne - theres a chance we might be able to do better. There's no reason to stick with the "3" that we know when there is a world of possibilities open to us now. Yeah, I like Kyle too. But there's a time when I thought Eric Shaffer and Alex Santos were indispensable. A year later, i am not even sure I got their names right. It could be Alex Shaffer and Eric Santos. To be honest, I dont really care. We got rid of them and dont miss them one bit. If Ron prefers Marty and Martin, then I'll trust his judgement and wish Kyle the best.
