I personally think it's scheme to be honest with you. In 16 years of coaching, Haz has never coached a top 10 defense if I'm correct. (correction: he's had 1 year out of the 16 that his defense was in top 10) To be fair to Haslett though, it's been 11 years since he's ran the 3-4 in Pittsburgh. He's mostly ran the 4-3 the past decade. It probably is a huge reason why Haslett wasn't Shanny's first choice as DC. I would like to see our DL get more of a push up the middle though, but I understand those guys don't have the size that Haloti Ngata does, but it would be nice. Now, I definitely think we could upgrade at MLB, and I would rather see another versatile OLB instead of Orakpo to be honest with you.

Pittsburgh had the #2 rated defense in the league the year prior to Jim Haslett taking over. The following year, they dropped to #6, then to #12 in 1998, and finally to #11 his final year in 1999.

I think I agree. The only reason I have any pause is because I want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but it's getting harder and harder. I mean when GW was here, we had Rogers/Hall/etc. and we'd all talk about Hall getting his ass beaten like a drum. I truly don't feel like that's happening as much this scheme is getting beaten. I mean last week, there were receivers running free. This week, the coverage was good, just bad play calls in my opinion.

how long until we see a "lights-out" try out? Andre Carter round 2? Bring back Kevin Barnes?

If we held opponents under 30 points we'd be undefeated. Not gonna happen. This is by far the worst secondary in the league, and the worst the Redskins defense have looked, maybe ever.

I bet he misses Spanos more than he would admit. Can't stand coverage woes between player mistakes and improper scheme.

Re: Redskins vs. Bengals Post Game Reaction

Neither Kevin Barnes nor Andre Carter are going to fix this.

Truly, Jackson and Wilson played a damn good game today. We got burned on a gimmick play and then had either a questionable scheme or shitty tackling the other plays.

I like Haslett's aggressiveness on first down, but after he gets a successful play, he wants to keep at it and it's been apparent over the past few years that he should be a little more conservative when the offense has a third and long situation.

I see people are finally realizing what I said from the beginning when they signed him instead of extending Rogers. Thanks Vinny!

Re: Redskins vs. Bengals Post Game Reaction

To be honest we just don't have the players to fit the scheme or vice versa. Both Kerrigan and Orakpo were drafted as DEs, not LBs. Both have made the adjustment rather well, but I would love to see both of them as DEs again and acting like a giant pincer to nail opposing QBs. One less linemen puts more pressure on the LBs to be able to plug the gaps for the run or defend short to medium routes on passing. Our best true LB is on the verge of retirement Add to that our secondary is full of no names, plus the loud mouth Hall, and you will get lit up. If Haslett and co wanted to institute the 3-4 the organization should have drafted and acquired players that actually played in the system at the college level. I know the options are limited as very few big college Div1A programs run the 3-4, but that fact should have made Haslett think twice about switching in the first place.

Re: Redskins vs. Bengals Post Game Reaction

Secondary problems will not be fixed for a year or two. You have to draft at least 2 DBs this draft and if we have the money to blow get a younger FA CB or S. Outside of Hall, we have nobody that is really of starting caliber. The only secondary that I have seen in the past couple seasons as bad as ours is the Lion's secondary, which is consists of a bunch of chumps. A switch to the 4-3 would be advised, but I think Haslett will be shown the door if the 2012 campaign is a bummer.

Teams would score 21 points and shut it down knowing it would take a miracle for us to score in the twenties. Probably disguised issues with the Defense.

Number 1 scoring offense in the NFL = 1-2. Doesn't make sense.

Yes and this year teams know we can score( obviously what are we at 30 ppg?) So now teams just keep airing it out
