Re: Coronavirus (political)
[QUOTE=mredskins;1248710]LOL!
I love to see him behind the scenes of all this. I bet he has a mask and gloves on 24/7 and only Melania can approach him to give him a BJ but he wears a condom (for his protection). Seriously, if you are still in this guys corner, god bless you.[/QUOTE I still say he will keep the US economy shut down as long as possible so that when he announces sometime over the fall right before elections (If we even have an election, many people say we will not) that "he" opened back up America and brought jobs back etc. He is 100% using this as political fuel now, IMO. Let's be realistic. It is going to take another President to start easing the lockdowns, we won't see something like that with Trump still in power, IMO.

Re: Coronavirus (political)
Should States most affected by the Coronavirus get Federal stimulus for their budget deficits caused by Corona?
Closed businesses, people not working = less anticipated State tax revenue. Budgets were set before Corona hit relying on businesses being open and people working and paying taxes. --------------- Costs associated with the coronavirus pandemic are mounting. What could be the focus of the next federal bailout? States with deficits that are growing as a result of lost tax revenue and higher unemployment, education and health costs. The states facing the largest deficits will be blue states, including California and New York. Given that the federal government is already providing states with $150 billion in aid to help cover unemployment, education and medical costs, you can expect some states and even localities to ask for more federal aid to cover their deficits. Today California and states like it spend billions upon billions of dollars annually on blue-state social-justice programs. Meanwhile, California is consistently at the bottom of surveys for fostering business startups. If the new normal becomes "all taxpayers must pay for deficits in other states," it will not only encourage reckless spending and poor business practices, it will deepen our red-state blue-state divide. For these reasons and others, the federal government should avoid covering state deficits. https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/tom-...avirus-bailout ------------------------------------ important to note, this opinion piece is not from a current sitting republican but from the former Chairman of the Republican California Party. So we cant take this one guys opinion and say it represents the Republican opinion etc .. ------------------- What the writer leaves out is the fact that these blue states hit hardest - California and NY - pay more to the Feds than they receive. If you think States should not be propped up by the Feds .. you have to apply that logic to all States in all times. CA - pays the Federal Govt 13.7 BILLION more tax dollars than it receives. NY - pays 24.1 BILLION more to the feds than it receives https://www.businessinsider.com/fede...-1#new-york-32 -------------------------------- HOUSE SPEAKER PAUL RYAN: — Ryan said the rest of the country is “propping up profligate, big-government states.” — “States that got their act together are paying for states that didn’t,” the Wisconsin Republican said. TREASURY SECRETARY STEVEN MNUCHIN: — “We are getting the federal government out of the business of subsidizing states. That is going to impact high-tax states.” THE FACTS: Connecticut residents paid an average of $15,643 per person in federal taxes in 2015, according to a report by the Rockefeller Institute of Government. Massachusetts paid $13,582 per person, New Jersey paid $13,137 and New York paid $12,820. California residents paid an average of $10,510. At the other end, Mississippi residents paid an average of $5,740 per person, while West Virginia paid $6,349, Kentucky paid $6,626 and South Carolina paid $6,665. Low-tax red states also fare better when you take into account federal spending. Mississippi received $2.13 for every tax dollar the state sent to Washington in 2015, according to the Rockefeller study. West Virginia received $2.07, Kentucky got $1.90 and South Carolina got $1.71. Meanwhile, New Jersey received 74 cents in federal spending for tax every dollar the state sent to Washington. New York received 81 cents, Connecticut received 82 cents and Massachusetts received 83 cents. California fared a bit better than other blue states. It received 96 cents for every dollar the state sent to Washington. On average, states received $1.14 in federal spending for every tax dollar they sent to Washington. That’s why the federal government has a budget deficit. https://apnews.com/2f83c72de1bd440d9...low-tax-states ---------------------------------------- This is only one guy. And he has a "former" in front of his name. I really hope we dont hear any current Republicans from say Kentucky, WVA, Mississippi or S Carolina say the federal governmetn shouldnt prop up individual States.

This is way off, if you think DJT gets his sexual favors from one woman you're wrong. They probably go through a hospital's supply of PPE for all the escorts he's ran through in the White House.

Re: Coronavirus (political)
I haven't read anything posted today on this thread.
Came here to just say its so hard to have a reasonable discussion on the interwebs about politics. Talking Skins here is easy. 99.00% of us agree they're the bees knees (even when we suck). Specifically to Kung...J/K...COVID-19, there just isn't some simple 5 step rule book on how to handle a worldwide pandemic (that wasn't even started here/and was hidden by its place of origin). This isn't to say that the Trump administration couldn't have done many many things better (mainly just Trump shutting up sometimes). There are always things that can be done better during things like this, Katrina, etc. But its also not fair to think that everything (mostly in hindsight) should be done absolutely perfectly. There is no perfect way to handle this situation. Its killing people globally. Non-specifically to COVID-19, there is a huge divide in people that support Trump and people that don't support him. As a supporter, I just feel like no matter what he does in any situation, people that don't support him are going to railroad him at every turn. From the opposite perspective, I totally get why people would say people that support Trump literally won't admit he ever does anything wrong, ever! And I get that too. I've definitely been that guy once or a hundred times. Right or wrong, a lot of that is from being defensive because I don't think he gets a fair shake (so even when he's wrong I fight it sometimes). The difficulty is discussing on the internet, because the context isn't always clear. I'd love drinking some beers with any of y'all and discussing sports or politics. I live in CA, at least 75% of the people I know are Democrat (including all my best friends here, my one conservative buddy moved back to CO), and I've had plenty of conversations about politics, with perfect reason (or at least drunk reason), respect, and no animosity. I'd damn near be willing to guarantee we would have the same reasonable/fun discussions if we were sitting next to each other with a picture of beer. Something to be said about being able to look another man/woman in the eyes when you discuss something as sensitive as politics. Example) If we had "best" friends on this site, I'd consider Punch my best friend on the Warpath (he likes my drunk angry gameday rants, hell, he actually encourages them, more than the rest of you bastards combined). Politically, we would fight to the death here. In person, obviously we'd disagree on most things, but there are probably a lot of things we agree with too, that we don't even know about. And even if in person we still disagreed 100% on everything, I think we would have a great time. Fuck you Punch. I love you Punch. God is good! HTTR! Hope everyone has a healthy weekend.

As a disclaimer, if anyone wants to hack my above post to threads, go for it. I won't respond. Those were just my $0.02.

Re: Coronavirus (political)
Well, Fauci just said yesterday in an article in the USA Today, that he has advised President Trump to not open the country again until there has been a period of time where there are no new cases, and no new daily deaths.
So that right there should pump the brakes on anybody thinking that the USA opens up again this year. No new deaths and no new cases, if that is the criteria Trump uses, we could see the USA shut down completely for years until there is a vaccine developed....

I put less than 0% probability Trump actually does this unless we get a month or two down the road and the numbers are so bad Trump is forced to come around (like January, when the 'Rona was no biggie in Trump's world, and now, when it's a pandemic).

Re: Coronavirus (political)
Looks like a lot people owe Tom Cotton an apology
Washington Post started the apology tour yesterday and now have another article this morning. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opini...a6d_story.html Ebright described a December video from the Wuhan CDC that shows staffers “collecting bat coronaviruses with inadequate [personal protective equipment] and unsafe operational practices.” Separately, I reviewed two Chinese articles, from 2017 and 2019, describing the heroics of Wuhan CDC researcher Tian Junhua, who while capturing bats in a cave “forgot to take protective measures” so that “bat urine dripped from the top of his head like raindrops.” And then there’s the Chinese study that was curiously withdrawn. In February, a site called ResearchGate published a brief article by Botao Xiao and Lei Xiao from Guangzhou’s South China University of Technology. “In addition to origins of natural recombination and intermediate host, the killer coronavirus probably originated from a laboratory in Wuhan. Safety level may need to be reinforced in high risk biohazardous laboratories,” the article concluded. Botao Xiao told the Wall Street Journal in February that he had withdrawn the paper because it “was not supported by direct proofs.”
