Re: Diehardskin's Theory of the 2010 Redskins
After watching the Redskins get embarrassed on Monday night football I have to adjust my thoughts on what Allen and Shanahan will do to this team. The defense is equally as bad as the offense. There is a need for massive change on this team. I feel that we must trade back into the first round this year in the draft.
QB: Jason Campbell has all the tools to become a great NFL QB. I feel he can run the Shanahan offence, he can scramble, run the bootleg. JC has a big arm, can take a hit and is a leader. However Jason makes too many mental mistakes and for as gifted as he is physically, he has not been able to put it together mentally. I like the guy as a person but he right now he is not the answer for the Washington Redskins. I don’t feel like this is the end for Campbell in Washington, if only for the fact that he can be a cheap body for a year to protect the rookie from playing too early. If he is truly a RFA he should be tendered that way if another team makes a run at him we will get some additional picks that we need. Right now I am in the Sam Bradford camp. Ideally in this situation Bradford can learn the Shanahan offense and heal that shoulder of his completely. Then 2011 let Campbell walk or if he does well trade him for picks. RB: Portis will be a Redskin next year, the Giants showed the reason why. He is the best blocking running back in the industry. He has lost a step, behind the right line he can do better. We will switch to a running back by committee. Ganther has done enough to stay on the roster. Rock Cartright and Ladel Betts will be cut because of age and injury. Mason simply will not make the team. If they draft Jonathon Dwyer, Jahvid Best, Toby Gerhart, Ryan Mathews, Dexter McCluster or Javarris James. Not all of these guys will be in the first round, but each are talented enough to give a boast to this roster. Lets also not forget who our owner is. If a player like Sproles or Reggie Bush hits the market, we may make a run at him. FB: Mike Sellars will be let go. He has not been able to block as he did his probowl season. Mike has never been much of a runner. I believe that also The Shanahan offense implements a lot of 1 back sets. If we drafted a player like Gerhart in the second can be converted to a FB/ goal line back. I know a lot of you won’t agree with me on that conversion, but I can see Gerhart as a Mike Alstott type of player. WR, TE and a redo of my Oline will be posted next Thanks folks and tell me what you think!

Re: Diehardskin's Theory of the 2010 Redskins
WR: This is a position that we are pretty much set on. The roster is currently set with a great mix of speed and height. The roster consist of Malcolm Kelly, Devin Thomas, Santana Moss, Antwaan Randle El and Marko Mitchell. I can see only a few moves made on this unit. Randle El will obviously be cut. He has disappointed as a special teams specialist, and was clearly out of position since coming to Washington. Moss, regardless of what fans feel is the undisputed leader of the WR’s and in some ways the offense overall. He will not be moved. The extra wide receiver position will go unfilled, especially if the running back that I see being drafted is a Darren Sproles type player, who can return punts and kickoffs.
TE: This is the strongest unit on the roster. Cooley is a pro bowl caliber player and when he is healthy is a top 10 TE. Davis has the potential to be a Tony Gonzalez, Antonio Gate type of tight end. Either man can be flexed out to create match-up problems for opposing defenses. We will not trade Cooley, he is a better, more polished blocker and route runner. Todd Yoder is a adequate blocker and helps in the run game. If anything Scott Wachenheim should be retained for the job he did with Davis as a pro. T: This position has been decimated by injuries and bad play on both sides of the line. Chris Samuels may be forced into retirement by injury and Heyer is not an NFL Caliber Tackle. This is where Shanahan and Allen will have the opportunity make a mark on this team. Currently, the starters on both sides are player’s off the scrap heap of late free agency. Heyer will be gone and a first rounder has to be used on a starting caliber tackle. I wouldn’t be surprised if we target the best Tackle available in Free Agency this year to go along with the draft pick.

Yes, and think of how perfect of a fit he will be behind Levi Jones, Derrick Dockery, Casey Rabach, Whoever the hell is healthy, and Stephon Heyer...Championship!

Re: Diehardskin's Theory of the 2010 Redskins
According to Bmitch (filling in for the Junkies on 106.7) Shannahan basically ran CP out of town because he of his work ethic.....I don't see him being here next year, especially since Shanny prefers younger backs.
IMO, the skins need to cut ties with all the "me-me"/"think they are way better than they really are guys" like CP, Landry, and Rodgers. I know they can't do it all at once, but guys like that have to go OR get a total attitude adjustment. From listening to B. Allen speak, I think he is going to go in that direction. This team needs a total makeover. |

Re: Diehardskin's Theory of the 2010 Redskins
absolutely agree...I think there is talent on this team (on both sides of the ball) but the team culture keeps the team from being as good as it could be.

Re: Diehardskin's Theory of the 2010 Redskins
my way of attacking it is draft oline and dline and fill in with wr and cb and lb with free agency.
qb on the other hand i can settle with jason as our qb or just draft one like colt and go from there with oline help to follow as well as running back.so with the first pick i would trade down for more selections and still be able to get what you want (hopefully)...... should be an interesting 2 day draft i hope ...

Re: Diehardskin's Theory of the 2010 Redskins
F/A = sign two OL , Draft ... two OL , and hope Rinehart and E.Williams can compete for starting spots ... and find a rb 4th-5th rd .... and pray for better coaching / attitude .
