Richardson is nowhere near ready to play NFL. We have to accept the fact that there is a small chance of drafting a rookie QB who can start this year. We aren’t in the position to draft the top QB in the draft and this year’s QB class isn’t exactly strong. If we are drafting for long term plans then I can understand the idea of drafting a rookie QB such as Richardson, but Rivera isn’t in the position to do that. He has to prove himself to the new owner, especially when he had mediocre seasons in the last 3 years. The only FA QB I would start over Howell is Garoppolo. If we can sign him then great, we have a new starter. If we could trade for Rodgers, then we have a new QB (I don’t like this idea but I can see Rivera going for it). If not one of those twos, it’s Howell. There is no other better option. Simple as that. |

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I mean I think it's a fair take on every position on every team, but it's definitely a reasonable position for a 2nd year guy, with 1 start.
As a Howell sunshine pumper, I still never felt differently. I just don't want to trade away picks to try to upgrade. Sign a couple guys, draft a couple guys, or 1 of each, and let all 3 compete. I think he's good enough, that you can bring in competition thru FA and the draft, without losing picks. And he will beat those guys out. Basically, next year, I think Howell will be a top 20 NFL QB. That's an improvement over 2022, and he will only get better, with still 2 more rookie year costs after 2023.

He's made a ton of coin tho. If I was in his shoes, I'd retire. I think we just paid him like 28 million for 1 year. Say taxes are half. You put that 14 million in a basic savings account, you're Gucci forever. That doesn't even take into account all the money he made before 2022.

@granthpaulsen
Sources: Bobby Engram is being hired as the Commanders’ WRs coach. Eric Bieniemy makes an important hire to his developing staff. Engram was a good NFL player before getting into coaching. He previously coached WRs and TEs in Baltimore and was on Wisconsin’s staff last year. |

The Dline is our team identity right now and where the talent is, I don’t mind it.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I don't mind the D-line being the strength of the team, but as is, it doesn't allow a lot of resources to be invested in other important units, such as the O-line, which arguably cost this team several wins last year. If you can't score, it doesn't matter how great your D-line is.
