A buddy of mine is a video editor over at Comcast, and he text me today that one of the guys over there had inside info that Shanahan is a "done deal." Whatever that's worth. I'd probably rather have Gruden, but I won't be mad at a two time Super Bowl winner coming in to take over coaching (hopefully with his son) with a true GM shopping for the groceries.

The potential was exciting but we gave far too much to get him... 8m a year, a 2nd.. and a 6th.. for a potential 2 years. We were looking to replace Daniels who is a completely different type of DE than Taylor, so it was not an appropriate choice. I know I was hoping that it would work out and thought less about that at the time, but yeah.

Because people keep talking about his alleged draft record

cerrato hasn't been a gm all these years, and snyder has never taken the tittle of gm either but they have both had in a hand in almost all the draft picks of the last decade have they not? just beacuse he doen't have the title of "draft guy" does not mean he doesn't have any in put or has learned from his experiences on other teams.

is he the number one guy for the job maybe not, i honestly don't think there is any perfect guy for the job at this point we have very unusual conditions here in dc and whoever could have been up for the job would no doubt have their hands full, i'm just glad to see some one with some football background and some success in their football background here, and am looking forward to see what happens

We'll never know with each pick how much was Allen and how much was Undead Al. We can still talk about picks made on his watch. They are part of his record even if Undead Al was a significant author of that record.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
We do know - big al made the decisions in Oakland. In Tampa, Gruden generally made the decisions. Allen is NOT a personnel guy which is why Snyder and Allen will either promote or bring in a personnel guy to make those decisions here. For all intents and purposes, Allen will end up being more of a president than a GM, atleast if JLCs reports are to be believed.

A couple of people have mentioned it but whether you agree with the pick or not it's a step in the right direction. We laid the foundation and are framing the house before we're trying to put the roof on. Also, I'll repeat what I said earlier, who really thinks that we had a bunch of guys that we may have wanted that wanted us in return? I mean could you really see a Piolo, etc coming to the Skins?

What I know about Allen seems like a big improvement over Vinny. But here's the billion dollar question: is Allen a guy who will keep Snyder from meddling in the football decisions?

On a side note, this is already a legendary thread in Warpath history. Nearly 10,000 views in just 16 or so hours. That's over 10 views a minute. Great stuff.

Thought I would pass this along. It's a good read from the Denver Post:

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
I found this interesting also:
Redskins hiring Allen could be first move toward adding Shanahan Quote:
[QUOTE]Shanahan interviewed for the Buffalo Bills' head-coaching job a few weeks back, but few people who know him expected the talks to progress, with other suitors emerging. Should the Dallas Cowboys continue to plummet, they could be in line for a coach, with Shanahan a top option. The Texans already have a great offense in place (they essentially run Shanahan’s offense with a good young quarterback in place), and there would be lots in place to attract the coach there as well, but I continue to hear he is most likely to land in Washington given the machinations already ongoing as he reaches out to potential hires for his next gig. /[QUOTE] |
