Smile 1st and goal

Hopefully I wont be expunged from this website for posting a silly thread such as this... But I wanted to try and deviate from all the pessimism floating around lately and couldnt resist. What do you think about using different personel in goal line situations? (ie. the Patriots, Bucs) I think we could get creative here. Maybe using a linebacker as a reciever on a bootleg pass or handing the ball off to Cooley and let him smash his way in? What do you guys think? Maybe I've been playing too much ESPN 2K5.

Re: 1st and goal

What are thinking, running the ball or catching it. I think that we would have better chance of throwing a pass to someone. Maybe Lavar or even Sean Taylor. It has to be a sick athlete for it to really be effective. Im concerned that we dont use Clinton the way we should at the goal line. I mean, for crying out loud, someone tell Joe that this boy is an athlete, and can catch the ball too.

Yes, Portis can catch the ball too. But we need to work on getting him closer to the 1500 yd mark.

Re: 1st and goal

The fact that you mentioned ESPN 2K5 should ban you from this site. That's what silly. Dude, if need be, I'll refund your $20 for the game if you can muster up the other $10 to buy Madden 2005. As far as goal line personnel, I don't think it's necessary to play around with that. Especially since the offense sputters before we get into the redzone.

I agree Monksdown, we should throw to Clinton more. I am suggesting pass or run...Sean Taylor would be a good option, he's tall, physical and aggressive. I could see him coming down with the jump ball.

I can see him getting knocked on his ass as soon as the ball is snapped. I just love you 'all-pro' gamers! That like having Dante Culpepper returning punts and kickoffs (I know you use Randy Moss because I've sent him out on a stretcher many times). I don't care how big, strong, and fast his is unconventional thinking isn't always smart.

Who- Sean? Are you kidding. He's 6'3 230 lbs and he's faster than 98% of the linebackers in the entire league. Im not saying he should run the ball. He is most definitely not an elusive runner. but he is a ball hog when it's in the air. He's built like a small recieving tight end, but faster than any of them.

BossHog...Madden was $50 when it came out. 2K5 was the best budget game ever created, not just sports-budget game. I also favor the logistics in ESPN, instead of Madden where you can drop back 40 feet from the pocket and throw an 85 yard touchdown. That's silly.

No offense. Literally. Seriously though. You can cop Madden now for under $35. And yes 2K5 is a quality game and thus a steal. It's like opting for generic prescription drugs or store brand can goods. It's up to you.

Re: 1st and goal

I'd like to see Taylor at running back on the rare occassion.

Honestly - I'd just be happy if we didn't run it up the middle three times on goal line situations.

BossHog...how did you go from Taylor catching a first and goal pass to Daunte Culpepper returning punts? I started this thread for some positive feedback, not to upset you "serious gamers".

I got it from Letterman's Top 10 list of ways to lose your job as a NFL head coach.

10. Fail to adjust the the 'new' NFL.
9. Fall in love with a washed up QB and sign him to a 'in the prime of his career' contract. Then he's benched.
8. Switch to a rookie QB after the veteran started off the season with a 5-0 record.
7. Sign players that played for you in college.
6. Employ the Fun 'n Gun offense
5. Bring in Vinny Testerverde as your starting QB.
4. Bring in Drew Bledsoe as your starting QB after bringing in Testerverde the year before.
3. Have Dante Culpepper as a PR/KR specialist.
2. Use Sean Taylor on offense in goal line situations.
1. Draw up your real life NFL playbook according to what happens in a videogame.

Hey Bosshog, check out this Sportsline's rankings on linebacker's right now. It's very odd where they put Antonio. Sorry Matty, this may bog the server a bit.

What's odd about that? Washington and Pierce are our best overall LBs on our team. Arrington is undoubtedly the most athletic. Pierce excels with vocal leadership and Washington rarely gets beat and never freelances.

Im just interested to see all of the hype surrounding lb's way beneath him. And it gets me concerned that we are not more willing to sign him. I wonder what he is asking for?
