Positives - What Positives You Ask?

Negative Nellies not needed.

Debbie Downers don't discuss.

This is the positives thread. Yes believe it or not, statistics, and just watching the game there are actual positives that we can talk about.

After 3 games:
The Skins lead the league in scoring.
Red Zone scoring, we are at 66.67% (tied for 5th)
RGIII has the longest deep ball score.
We are #6 in total offense yards
RGIII has thrown only one INT, has a passer rating over 100 (103.5 or 6th best) Luck's for comparison sake is 75.4
We have the 2nd most rushing yards
We are 5/6 for FG's, missing only the 62 yarder.

The completion percentage against our defense is tied for 11th best with Pittsburgh at 60.9% ( we are way out of skew on yds allowed, so if we can tighten the ydge, the actual coverage is not as bad as the yardage implies)
Our rushing D is 9th best in the league

That's the positives from a stats point of view. But there also are some intangibles that need to be mentioned, not the least is RGIII and what he brings in terms of game awareness.

While he hasn't led a comeback win yet, as JR mentioned elsewhere, I don't doubt that every single person wasn't holding his/her breath to see if we could march down the field and tie the game with <2 minutes left. I am pretty firmly convinced that once the game flow gets back to normal (refs I'm looking at you), we won't see the last second loss of composure that showed up in the last 2 games, although I hope someone asks Davis where he was going on the play that got the initial False Start.

Also in the intangibles, for as many yards as our D has given up, they have also had some critical 3 and outs that put the Offense in the position to tie or take the lead, not everyone was followed by offensive execution but, there are areas to build on.

So,
Again

I can't remember the feeling of having such a trustworthy offense. What a feeling. Everytime the offense gets the ball, you can reasonably hope for a score. Gone are the days of scoring 12 or 15 points a game, and that's such a wonderful feeling.

And we don't even have our best WR on the field. How would have Cam done without Steve Smith the first 3 games last year?

And the Skins have lost by a combined total of 11 points to solid NFL powerhouses the Rams and Bengals.

Talking about the defense, rushing defense has been outstanding at ranked 9th in the league 276 given up, 92 ypg. If you take out the big play run from the St Louis game, we give an average of 3.5 ypc.

I think thats a positive, and a little bit of a surprise.

Another positive is the depth issue after this past game, Jackson and Wilson were more than adequate filling in for Rak and Jarvis held up ok in AC absence.

I like this thread

Offense is looking way better with Griffin in it, obviously. I read an article on nfl.com about Davis' interview, he said that the offense is not even complete and yet we still are in top 10. Absolutely looking forward to the future. Now the trade we made with Rams is starting to look like a brilliant move.

I have to admit, I was really worried about Jackson and Wilson taking over Orakpo but now I'm not. Jackson stepped up yesterday, granted it was just one game.

Brillant? Not so sure about that.

Why not? What we gave up is definitely too much, but it was only way we could get Griffin. The move was a home run or go home, luckily for us it is a home run move.

I love the kid. But it's still way too early to say if this was a home run trade or not.

Honestly the only way this isn't is the one word which everybody wants to speak, but I shall not speak. To have a rookie qb with a qb rating of 103 after 3 games is frickin unheard of. Say what you will about the option, but he has made every throw, short, lateral, mid level, and deep. In training camp people were worried about bounce passes, or inaccurate deep balls, but his throw to Garcon in the opener was perfect, and he has had a couple other deep balls that hit the receivers in full stride. He hasn't locked on to one receiver, instead he has hit TE's, WR's, RB's.

And Finally, and this is the most important thing. He is not a finished product. What we are seeing is close to his floor. Maybe he regresses if the option safety net is pulled away, but, clearly the speed of the game is clicking for him, and in terms of hits, he's not the most hit, or least hit, and he understands the hits are a part of the game. You don't see a Blaine Gabbert fear of hits. Who knows how high his ceiling is!!!

Re: Positives - What Positives You Ask?

We have a long way to go this season. As things progress, the offense should get even better. RGIII will improve. The team will be more on the same page with each other and the scheme. One positive is that our offense should be better on Thanksgiving than it is now.

A positive for the defense might (that is, might) be that we get better safety play once Meriweather has healed and returned.

I'm not going to panic in week 3. Ask me again in week 11.
