Dewey Defeats Truman!

Good for those that need healthcare but can't afford it.

Re: Supreme Court Upholds Health Care Mandate

Personally I like the plan, especially kids in college being able to stay on their parents plan. When I was in college I saw the price of medical insurance, on my own, as a healthy 20something was just crazy. I decided to gamble -- and lost. It's when I really started to hate the medical system in the states. I realize I gambled and lost. I paid about 25K for 45 minutes in a hospital and 700 a week for 16 weeks for antibiotics to try to attack the lyme disease. I made a mistake, and understood I had to pay this money, but what made me upset -- is that insurance companies would have paid significantly less for the exact same system. A self-pay patient shouldn't have any different rate than an insurance company.

Secondly, the mandate for insurance is important. How can you mandate auto insurance, and in some cases home insurance, but not require medical. If this was overturned couldn't legal precedent be set to make those insurances optional as well? I'm actually curious if there's any reason why auto is required whereas health insurance wasn't.

Don't you have a choice not to drive or own a car?

Egg all over CNN's face. How could it let that happen?

Anyhow, this ruling is a great day for America, although what we really need is a true universal health care system. This will do for now.

One step closer to the full liberal agenda and breadlines.

Lotus, I'd also like to see a true Universal Health Care system, just not sure how you support the additional load created by illegal immigrants as we do in CA.

Would removing the Insurance companies from the equation help to create a more egalitarian system?

The federal goverment cannot even run the national flood Ins Program and you guiys think they can run your health care. The sad part is that this is going to be a very expensive "I Told You So" a few years from now.

Yes, I think that removing the insurance companies from the equation might makes things both more egalitarian and cheaper, since insurance companies are complicit in driving up costs.

Universal health care works in other countries, so it should work here, too. Don't you think so?

I experienced the English system first-hand, before it took a dump due to freeloading from immigrants. It's workable but only if everyone is paying in and we're not doing tummy tucks for $10 for fat bastards that refuse to work out or eat sensibly.

Then we have the quandry of who chooses which procedure for whom.

Potentially, it could work. Actually? I doubt it.

Re: Supreme Court Upholds Health Care Mandate

The best part is that this plan is about the same plan as Massachusetts.

Massachusetts has the most expensive family health insurance premiums in the country, according to a new analysis that highlights the state’s challenge in trying to rein in medical costs after passage of a landmark 2006 law that mandated coverage for nearly everyone.

Great idea on in gov. Take a failing plan in one state and make it the national plan. Bravo!!!
