Romo not that good - Theismann
Shame this couldn't have been 'news' closer to our game with them:
Romo not that good - Theismann "Soon or later we have to come to the realization that Tony isn't a very good quarterback," Theismann told Brady & Lang on Sportsnet 590 The Fan Tuesday. "He throws interceptions that (make) you shake your head. If it's all the wide receivers' fault then maybe he should get some new wide receivers, or they need to come up with some new route combinations that guys can understand." Romo matched a career high with five interceptions, two of them returned for touchdowns as the Bears won 34-18 on Monday night. "What hit me last night is, Tony isn't really that good," Theismann said. "Just because he wears a star on his helmet -- we all think that people who are Dallas Cowboys, 'ooh they're wonderful and ooh they're terrific, ooh they're the next Roger Staubach' or whatever the heck they want to say. They're full of bologna. |

Re: Romo not that good - Theismann
Romo did break Staubachs TD record the other night. But Joe's right. Romo's good but I dont think he's as good as many think.

Having the longest leash ever to allow him to play that many games doesn't say anything about his actual abilities. Dallas has had to play from behind a lot too thanks to Jerry's mismanagement of the team. They've had a RBBC in the backfield for years and have been a pass-first team. Jon Kitna would have put up those same numbers without the boneheaded, game-costing errors. Kyle Orton would probably be an upgrade honestly. They should try him out as the starter before the season ends...he'd be a cheaper option going forward and they could make the upgrades in his supporting cast that they need. Romo was a nice story, being undrafted and starting...but the experiment should be over after 10 years. How many playoff games have they won with Romo? One. They've only won one playoff game since 1997. Even we've won two playoff games in that span without a franchise QB. They're 1-4 under Romo in the playoffs. He's not the answer. Unforunately for Dallas, when Jerry Jones selects his "guys", he sticks with them stubbornly for longer than makes sense because he hates to be wrong. This is why Romo is still their QB and why Jason Garrett is still the head coach. Garrett should have been nothing more than an interim coach. Rob Ryan or Bill Callahan would be better and are more qualified. I think one of them will take over this season when Garrett is so bad he has to be fired. It's an interesting scenario when the assistant coaches are more qualified than the head coach. It makes you wonder if Jones hired them as fallbacks for Garrett, so he can promote one of them rather than having to look outside of the organization...like Jones is expecting Garrett to fail despite his public manlove for him. Staubach was infinitely better than Romo.

For a few years down here they thought Bill Parcells found him in a manger wrapped in swaddling clothes.

Re: Romo not that good - Theismann
I think Romo is a little bit of a Gunslinger like Favre use to be and Cutler can be at times. Let me throw it out there and see if my guy can make a play. Sometimes he looks great and other times, it seems like he is just throwing it up. I think as a CB or Safety, you can definitely peek into the back field and watch his eys and get a jump.

I dont disagree with Joe, but out of habit i will anyway. Joe sucks. Tony Romo can make throws with his left hand that Joe couldnt even pretend to make with his right. Tony takes chances. Joe think's he's god's gift to us. screw him.

Romo is a good qb IMO, look at his overall numbers and record it's pretty good. He's not Brady or Manning or Rodgers etc but he's no scrub

Re: Romo not that good - Theismann
I've seen Romo dodge pressure that there is no way he could actually see. He has a sixth sense in the pocket. It's frustrating.

Re: Romo not that good - Theismann
JT is dead wrong here. If Romo was a Redskin and did what he did Mon. night he'd be ripping the wr's, just like Gruden was. Yeah Romo is risk taker but so what? That's part what makes him a good QB.

Re: Romo not that good - Theismann
Joey Sunshine is a little over-the-top here. While I have no love for Romo, he consistently puts up numbers which are much better than a QB who is "not that good."

This is the same guy that thought Jason Campbell was a good QB? Yeah, he doesn't have a clue apparently about good QBs.

Look, Joe is my favorite Redskin QB ever. I am too young to have seen Sammy Baugh play. Joe knows about winning Super Bowls and he knows what he is talking about. Romo is horrible. Romo threw the ball up "softly"/"cowardly" in Dez's general area and it's a pick six, Romo's specialty. So what Dez didn't adjust his route (bad coaching) but that ball was gonna be picked anyway. Film study told Tillman the safety blitz was gonna cause this clown to loft a pick 6 out there (bad coaching). Pick sixes and lofting soft balls when pressured, are tendacies of Romo. |

Re: Romo not that good - Theismann
Over the top perhaps, what he should have said is Romo is overrated and still makes too many dumb decisions that a guy with his experience just shouldn't make. Romo is in the 2nd tier of QBs in the league, good but not great.
