It's all so sad considering they have been together 40 years. I wonder if infidelity played any role in their decision.

Separation doesn't necessarily mean divorce. I suppose they could have just bought the place as investment property or it could be Al's new home.

Why would they buy a house on the beach , when they " know " that man made global warming will melt the Ice caps , causing oceans to rise , which will destroy the new mansion ? Maybe tipper just wants to be farther inland where it is safe ?
