ESPN:Too much shouting obscures the message

ESPN.com - COLUMNIST/SCHREIBER - Schreiber: Can we keep the yelling down?

This woman is the new ombudsman for ESPN and for all the good the old one(George Solomon) did Ms. Schreiber blows him away. She basically has called out just about everyone at ESPN outside of the respected group of Clayton, Mortensen, Schlereth, Wilbon, Kornheiser, SmootSmack, Ley and a few others. I could not agree with her more. The loud mouth and usually very uniformed and most of the time totally wrong on facts crowd at ESPN are the main reason I barely watch it anymore. What does everyone esle think.

SmootSmack and EEich opinions don't count since they're just yes men. j/k

Re: ESPN:Too much shouting obscures the message

Very good read here and I definitely can understand her take on things.

These know-it-all sports reporters are getting out of hand, they think they are the main reason people tune in, not for the news stories.

I know when I see John Clayton, Peter Gammons or Chris Mortensen as I flip I will stop and listen. Just about anyone else on that station and I don't even give it a thought as I flip by. I can't even watch SC anymore since it has become so over-produced and mis-mashed.

I agree, there are handful of well respected guys at ESPN that get my attention too, but generally I skip by crap like Around The Horn.

It seems way too flashy. I would imagine that someone with epilepsy might actually have a seizure watching it sometimes. I think the opening annoys me the most but this all may just be a personal opinion thing. I think a lot of the other stuff I have problems with a lot of other people have problems with too.

SmootSmack,

do you all get a lot of feedback about this type of stuff? Meaning do a lot of people want guys like SS to just shut up and go away?

Also does an article like this cause issues in Brostol?

Issues as in does it really initiate any type of discussion? I would imagine guys like Salisbury don't take to well to being called out by someone like Ms. Schreiber. Not that she called people out by name too much but it was clear some of the people she was talking about. Or does everyone just shrug it off and not care? I'm not sure about your daily interaction with talent and such so maybe you don't have a good frame of reference to be able to answer. I just can't imagine an article like this going quietly into the night. And that would probably cause at least a buzz around the office right?

I like them. There are better sports radio shows out there, but M&M isn't too bad.

I have never heard them but I have heard only bad things about them. Weirdly I seem to remember somewhat liking Golic when he was on ESPN a lot.

What is it that people dislike about the show?

Re: ESPN:Too much shouting obscures the message

This is a bit off topic, but her article reminded me of it:

If you haven't read the Chuck Klosterman about steroids, it's pretty damn good. Check it out if you're interested.
This might be an interesting topic on it's own, sorry for the hijacking.

Re: ESPN:Too much shouting obscures the message

Yeah that is a good article. An example of the type of stuff that ESPN does so well. Then they go and piss it all away with another "booyah!" or by putting Skip Bayless back on air. What a turd sandwhich Skip Bayless is. He makes Sean Salisbury seem reasonable.

By the way. How's that walk from Conn to DC going SS. I figureed he'd actually do it since he could stand lose 40 or so pounds.
